The other day as I was pulling into my work parking lot I noticed a small group of people gathered around and looking at something. When I got out of my car and walked up to them I realized it was a cat with his head stuck in a soup can. The poor thing must have been digging in the dumpster and got his head stuck when trying to like the bottom of the can.

No one really knew what to do and I think everyone was afraid of getting scratched if they tried to help. But I could see the kitty was breathing very heavily and realized he was suffocating and someone was going to have to help the cat.

So I kneeled down next to the kitty and examined the can and his head to make sure the can didn't still have the sharp lid attached or any other sharp corners that would cut him. After seeing that it was just the can and no lid or anything sharp inside I took a firm grip of the soup can and started pulling gently.

The cat seemed like he knew what I was trying to do and pulled back away from the can as I pulled the can off his head. The can slowly came off to reveal a soupy cat head. When the cat saw daylight he quickly darted off towards a condo complex where he probably lives with his human companion.

Just before he disapeared into the bushes he stopped and looked back at me for a few seconds, as if he was trying to thank me, and then turned back around scampered into the shrubs towards home.

That made my day helping him and I was very glad that the kitty didn't come along on a Saturday or Sunday when no one would have been around and things might have turned out differently for him.

BTW, I named him "Campbell" so if I ever see him in the area again that is what I will be calling him smile.gif

Simba's Daddy,

What a sweet story and what a hero you are! I am sure Campbell was very grateful that you were around. With so many sad stories it is really nice to hear one with a happy ending wub.gif

Hi ! I am surfing your site again and I enjoy each time I am here, reading about all your pets and the love you showed them. I do miss my Tom ! My name is Michelle, I'm currently in Kentucky, I'm a cat lover, my mom's cat Pigpen just had 4 kittens, they are so cute. I live everyday for me and I pray that my Tom is safe and getting the love he deserves, he was my baby.

What a great story! I'm so glad you were there to help the poor guy. Hopefully he learned his lesson and won't go sticking his head in a soup can again!

I read this story about 10 days ago.

At fivish this morning, I was at the stage where you are sort of dreaming and sort of about to wake up. You could call it a vision because there was no action other than my being able to see two soup cans, gift wrapped!.......what the.......?

Then it came to me that maybe this was a message from Felix and Yukon, that they are keeping well and will always be there for me to turn to when my time comes, no matter how long it will have been. Just when I was having doubts.
Thanks John and thanks Campbell for prompting this wonderful thought!
