Zen, A new "little guy" Options

I just adopted a Chocolate Point Siamese from a shelter in a nearby city. His name was originally Monkey, but I felt that he needed a more dignified name, so in tribute to Chaos, I named him Zen (which is acceptance of what is, something I'm trying to do since Chaos passed away). I have a feeling that he will acquire a nickname of "Zen Monkey" however, lol. He's a big boy (he was in a rather small room with about 20 other cats and almost no room to exercise for almost two months), but I'm going to leash train him so that we can go for walks (he likes it outside, but I would never permit him or any pet to go outside unmonitored). He is also being given a limited ingredient diet, so that will help. He has the most laid back personality that I have ever seen in a cat. And he has the typical Siamese devotion and intelligence. Katie is still getting used to the idea of living with this newcomer, but she is already starting to show signs of acceptance, which makes me think that this was probably a pretty good idea to adopt him. The first night with him, he laid next to me for half the night, with his paw around my arm, snoring. He slept alot the first few days (I've had him about five days now). I guess he's had it kinda rough lately, and was catching up on his sleep! Me and Katie have had it rough the past month too, so it's nice to have this new "little guy" to share things with. He loves it here, and seems very happy and relaxed. The photo posted is the one I saw on petfinders.com, I don't have any pictures of him that I've taken myself, yet.

Looks like he will be a real good buddy for you and Katie. You have a brilliant ability to make the right decisions. Zen will help you while you are helping him. Take care all of you sweet sweet sweethearts.

Oh Zen is gorgeous! What a great name for him. He sounds like he is fitting into your family so well. I'm so happy for you all.

We take our cats out on leashes. It doesn't take them long to figure it out, the most trouble we have ever had is getting a kitten to sit still long enough to get a harness on him! LOL. We get a good harness and tie a long bit of twine to it. That way the cat can 'feel' like he is alone but we are close enough to see him, help keep him out of trouble. One of our cats loves to go around the corner of the house and sleep. We hook her twine to a stake in the ground and watch the twine, so the cat can feel free and get a good nap.

First, thank you for all the lovely compliments, Zen very much agrees that he's easy on the eyes, lol. Unfortunately, the little guy has tapeworms (which the shelter didn't catch, though tapeworms don't usually show up in a stool sample, so it was easy for them to miss). I bought some medicine for him that will be here tomorrow (along with some very tasty, potent catnip). I have also decided to put both him and Katie on the raw food diet. She has some serious health problems that I'm trying to help her with, and he's obese (from inactivity and the dry food, I'm sure). So, I ordered 10 lbs of rabbit to get them started. I have to buy the supplements, and will start them on it sometime next week (when the rabbit gets here). I will check back in as time goes on, and update everyone on the new diet. I'm gonna upload pictures of Chaos and Katie too, so everyone can see the kitties I'm talking about.
