Hi, Dottie, just checking your posts about Styx Kitty and am wondering how he's doing. Life sure does take a tumble when one our precious companions is not feeling up to par. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers and will look forward to knowing how Styx Kitty is doing.

Peace and blessings,

Hi Moon Beam,

Remember how I said Styx is still so very obese? Not any more. He's thin, lost his belly and has a whole bunch of loose skin hanging down now. Not in his way or anything like that. Began about a month or less ago and happened pretty fast considering I've had him on a diet for many years. Also, remember how I've told you about his low, loud, howling meow? Well, a little over a week ago, I met him walking toward me in the hall as I was going to the bathroom or kitchen. He let out that howl, but it was different. So very amplified. Loud, loud, loud. He sounded like a woodland creature who'd just gotten snared in a sharp teethed trap.

In a soft voice, I looked at him and said, "My God, cat what is wrong with you?" Scared me terribly. Had to have been pain. He proceeded to throw up a bunch which he'd been doing for days. For many days. I gave him some homemade soup of real broth, rice, bread, but feared to put meat in it. Styx ate and enjoyed the soup. Next day, I shared some noodles and cheese with him, but just a little. Well, for him, it may have been a lot. He kept it down. Then the next day, he got up from where he was lying on the sofa with me, turned around and gave that same amplified howl! Yep, poor kitty threw up all over the place again.

Since then, I've been treating him very differently ...

Every time I hear him eating, I call to him sweetly to stop eating because he's had enough in hopes that he'll eat just a few bites of his kibbles at a time then go back later for more. He comes to me, I pick him up, very gently hold him against my chest, or on the sofa and cover him, or kiss and pet him, etc. Knock on wood! It's been several days since he's thrown up again. He can walk a whole heck of a lot easier now that he's lost at least 10 or 15 pounds and he appears happy, content, comfortable, purring and loves to nuzzle. But! I sure did refuse to let him kiss me right after he had thrown up all those times cuz ewww!

All in all, this darn cat never ceases to amaze me as he keeps coming back to happy.
Purring, nuzzling and so on from being on the verge of death. 'Tis a puzzlement.

Ya think he's faking it? Nawww. Me thinks a bit of affection goes a long way. Poor Buddy dog gets sad and jealous, so I make sure to have them both close and keep going back and forth with loving on them. As for that dad gum Percy Bird Green Cheeked Conure Parrot, he pretty much rules the roost. Tell ya more about him at another time. Thanks so much for asking, Moon Beam. Blessings!

Big Hugs and Lotsa Love!!!

Always, Dottie xoxoxox

Hi Dottie

Such good news that Styx Kitty has rallied again. Whatever you're doing it seems to be working. I'm sure that Buddy Dog and Percy Bird are getting their fair share of Mommy love too.
I can't write more right now as this aged PC is really playing up, or is it me.... ? It takes about 5 seconds to type each word.
Thinking of you and sending much love.

Thanks so much for your kindness, Sweet Jan! {{{{{Hug}}}}} Oh dear, not you too with the PC problems. Sure do hope you get everything resolved. Perhaps it is your ISP? Well, I do hope to gosh your PC doesn't go *Poof* on you, Hon.

As for Styx kitty, he's been so close to death several times within the last year or so, but still takes a licking and keeps on ticking. That darn cat is gonna outlive me. Bad news is that he's back to drinking way too much again. Good news is that his appetite has improved and he still hasn't thrown up any more yet. Knock on wood! Now, if he goes and puts all that weight back on like before, I shall be sorely tempted to take the fatty boom balatty feline in for liposuction cuz Dang. wink.gif

Oh, and he's peeing a lot more again, too. Dear Lord, please spare us all any forms of kitty Déjà vu. Arg.

Will keep you posted and thanks again so much. Love to you, your Angels and Pixie!!! wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Sorry Dottie, I didn't know Styx was sick. There are so many posts and I'm slowly reading some of them as time allows. Even with my mind consumed so much with Bailey's death, time goes on. I am looking for permanent employment (not just subbing) and it's so hard to keep focused.

I hope that Styx continues to do better. Please tell me about Percy Bird...

Hello darling Dottie, I didn't know dear Styx was not well again, but it seems by your later posts that he is on the improve again. I know you take very good care of him and Buddy and Percy bird. It's was nice to pop back onto this forum and see that our "angel Dottie" has returned. Hope to catch you on chat again one day xx

Hi Sweet Madi. Well, things have taken a turn for the worse with Styx kitty. A few days ago when I was walking toward the hallway leading to the bathroom and kitchen, Styx met me head on and gave out one of his loud, low, howling meows. This time is was different. I don't know quite how to explain it, but his meow sounded amplified as though on a microphone or megaphone or ... I just don't know what. Scared the heck outta me! I softly said, "Oh My God. Styx kitty, what is wrong with you?" He sounded like some woodland creature who'd just been snared in one of those sharp toothed bear traps and was letting out a death scream. I am serious. So very alarming! Wait. I talked about that in post number 43. Then, he did it again two days later as he woke from his newest favorite place on the sofa, got up and ... HOWLED! Just the once. Threw up all over the place again.

Today, actually yesterday, he threw up at least 7 to 10 times. It's gawd awful. Then, about a half hour ago, he followed me into the bathroom. OMG!!! He's lost a lot more weight, you can easily see each of his spinal vertebrae (bones) and his ribs are starting to show, too. Oh My Gawd! I picked him up and he feels almost weightless compared to a month ago. Maybe 6 or 7 pounds. If I can pick him up using my bad left arm, wrist and hand, that means trouble with a capital T! He's so very thin and it happened so very fast.

This cat is on his way out. Still, he loves to be held, petted, kissed, nuzzled, scratched. Just a whole lot more gently though. I'm terribly worried, but there's really nothing that the Vet can do. Styx is 14 years old. His life span as a Cornish Rex is to 15 years old. I don't know if he's going to make it. We will see. I've been staying up for days at a time catching naps here and there when I'm able in case he ...
I don't even want to finish that sentence.

Please keep Styx kitty in your thoughts and prayers that he remains comfortable as he ...
That is all for now. Sorry, I just can't see the screen ...

Always, Dottie xoxoxox

Hi, Dottie, I'm so sorry that Styx Kitty is not feeling well these days. I do know how those "improved" days just make your heart soar with happiness and hope, and then when our precious companions take another "turn" it just makes our heart sick with sorrow and fear and concern. I know about the sleep starved nights, too, Dottie not wanting to be asleep in case our precious babies need us.

Dottie, please know you and your precious kitty are in my thoughts and prayers, and please let us know how things are going.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Thank you so much Dear Sweet Cheryl. {{{{{Hug}}}}} Yep, he is fading away. Now, instead of drinking tons and tons of water and urinating like a race horse ... He'll go up to 15 hours without eating, drinking or going potty. Then, he'll rally a bit to eat, drink, urinate a little something like every 5 hours. Sometimes 3 hours. Then he goes back to the 15 hour under his blanket sleeping thing again. He's pooped once in the last 2 to three days. I have got to get some more sleep or I ain't gonna be any good to him. When I do cat nap, no pun intended, I hold him while napping on the sofa. He loves that very much.

It may be days or weeks, but I don't believe it will be months. He's very comfortable. At least he gives every appearance of being comfortable and sleeping soundly with no problems. Knock on wood! And, I'm so very grateful for that. God is smiling on this darling old man kitty cat. I pray God continues to smile upon Styx.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It does mean the world to me and Styx, too!

God Bless You, Moon Beam, Jan, Madi and Everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Styx and me. wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Hi, Dottie, just logged in as I just got a notice of your post. I've been upgrading to MS 2003 and I had to call my ISP to help me get my e-mail back. Yeah -- it must be nice to know what you're doing with these techno gizmos. I used my lap top as my "trial run" before I touched my desk top. I needed to upgrade as I have been using MS 2000 for many a year now, and while it has served me well, there are things I need now that I haven't before - - hence the upgrade.

But to you, now, I'm so sorry that Styx Kitty appears to be preparing the both of you for his journey to the angels. This is a very hard time for you, I know. Treasure every moment you can with your precious Kitty, as I know you already are. Just know we are here with you and for you, dear Dottie, to share your news - - whatever that may be - - as time and energy permit you to be here with us.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Hi, Moon Beam. I'm very pleased indeed to hear that you successfully upgraded your computers. Frankly, I was really concerned after our discussion on the other thread that one or both of your PCs were on the verge of going belly up. After all, look what happened with your motherboard. And now, you have upgraded. Yes, this is great news!

As for Styx kitty, there's a lot of going back and forth and stuff I'm doing for him and yada, yada, yada which I'm not talking about because it would take hours. He's still having his ups and downs, however his ups are becoming "not as high up" each time. All I can do is what I am doing plus continue to pray that he keeps on being as comfortable as he appears to be.

Thanks so much for your kindness and please know that I am treasuring every moment with Styx to the fullest.

Many Blessings to you, Angel Fur Kid Abbygayle and her sweet brother Noah there at home with you! wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Hello Dear Friends,

Knock on wood. Today's the first time in many days that Styx hasn't thrown up every time he eats. I had been giving him homemade soup from the Meals on Wheels people and that worked well for a short while. Then he began turning his nose up to the soup. It's not always the same kind of soup though, and perhaps I'll try that again. I've tried sharing other things from Meals on Wheels with Styx kitty like their chicken patties type stuff. He won't even touch it. He will eat their real type chicken and beef, so I make sure to offer him that whenever it's the meal of the day. He also likes bread and these awful generic taco chips. Say, he can have what he wants.

He likes certain types of vegetables such as peas and lima beans, so I smash them up and spoon feed them to him when they're part of what's delivered. Today, the volunteer brought some kind of soft beef stew with onions and green bell pepper. I know not to give Styx nor any kitty onions (not dogs nor birds either), so I carefully picked those out, took each small piece of beef, shredded it into very small pieces, then served that to Styx. He ate it with gusto! The more I saw him eating, the faster I shredded more of that beef and kept adding it to his bowl on the sofa by my side. Made me feel so good to see him eating and I prayed that he'd keep it down. He did keep it down. Whew. I never know what Meals on Wheels is going to deliver and sure hope they'll bring something tomorrow that Styx will eat and not throw up. Bless his heart. I can hear him eating some of his kibbles now. Sure hope he's able to keep them down.

Styx has lost even more weight, but at least he can sleep on my chest at night again instead of between my legs. He'd gotten so obese that I couldn't breathe when he'd try to climb on my chest to sleep. It looks like we've come full circle. So far, he hasn't let out any more amplified howls like he did the two times I spoke of in my posts above.

Yes, he's still fading and I have absolutely no idea how long this will take since he keeps going back and forth as I've described already. Sure do hope and pray he stays comfortable during his journey to The Rainbow Bridge. God has smiled on this old man cat so far, and gosh knows that I pray He will continue to smile on my sweet baby boy. Thank you for listening.

Many Blessings to All and Your Fur Kid Angels.

Always, Dottie xoxoxox

Dottie,

I'm so pleased that Styx is eating again and, so far, managing to keep it down. I, too, hope and pray that his journey to the Angels to join his brother Alex is a comfortable and peaceful one.

Hugs, Cheryl xx

Hi, Dottie, like Cheryl I, too, am very glad that Styx Kitty is eating some again, and at least at the moment you were writing - - has been able to have it settle favorably on his tummy.

By the way, have you ever tried giving him the Nutri-Cal supplement? It's a high caloric glucose supplement for furkids who are recovering from surgery, ill - - not being able to eat properly, etc.. It's a real tasty treat for them, too. You just don't want to "overdo" because it can cause "the runs", if you get my drfit. You can get it online if it's easier for you to have it delivered to you rather than going out to the local pet store.

It's just a thought, - - your precious Kitty is in EXCELLENT care with you!!! And God knows this, too!!!

Dottie, please know you and your precious Kitty are in my thoughts and prayers, and will look forward to knowing how things are going.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Thank you so much, Cheryl and Moon Beam. {{{{{Hug}}}}} Styx kitty did throw up three times this morning, but the Meals on Wheels volunteer brought a nice piece of chicken with a little tomato sauce and a bit of spaghetti around 10:30 AM. So, I cut off a piece of that chicken, chopped into tiny bite sized pieces, added just a tad of tomato as well as chopped up spaghetti, then put it on a plate for Styx. He was waiting for me while I got it ready, so I think he knows the routine now. I took it to the sofa, placed it there and coaxed Styx to try a few bites. At first, I was so sure he wouldn't eat it, so I pretended that I was eating it and made yummy sounds ...

Well, it worked. smile.gif He only took a few bites and I gave the rest on the plate to Buddy dog.

That dog is truly amazing. Whenever I give anything to Styx, even if it's on the floor, all I have to do is gently say, "No, just a minute, Buddy." Always and without fail, Buddy dog will wait until Styx kitty walks away from the plate and then looks to me for approval. "Okay! Now, Buddy dog! Go get it!" That's his cue it's his turn at the treats. He's done that for years. Bless his heart!

Thanks so much for telling me about the Nutri-Cal supplement, Moon Beam. I am so very grateful! Before coming to post back to you both, I did a Google Search to make sure I'm ordering the right thing. Is this it, Moon Beam? Please click here. Okay, that one is $7.39 with free shipping if you qualify, as the Website says. Or this one? Please click here. That one is $5.49, but there's shipping charges unless your order is over $50. Then, I found this one. Please click here. It's $8.72 and free shipping with "standard orders" (whatever that means) over $35. Well, I always use PetCo.com online for kitty, doggie and birdie supplies when I'm not able to find someone to go to the store for me. Please click here. It's $8.99 and there is a shipping fee. So, I kept searching and please click here. It's $5.49 for 4.25 ounces and does qualify for free shipping. That's great, but I don't know if it's enough volume for the price. I can always get two or more if it's the stuff you're talking about. Is that the right product? (The one for cats and not kittens as they do carry both.) Please let me know when you're able so I can order ASAP. Thanks again very much dear Moon Beam. I've never heard of this product and would not have know had you not told me. Thanks again so much! And, Styx kitty thanks you too, Moon Beam.

Well, a little something for you both. Here's the story of the Cornish Rex and that one cat in the video looks exactly like Styx with its markings, but Styx has fur so short that he looks like a Sphynx kitty. Also, as you can see from Styx's photo on the first post I made, his fur (or lack of any fur) is completely gray with none of the black on the kitty in this video. No gray spot on Styx's leg either. Here, I'll post his photo again. Please click on Styx's photo. "Ideal Companion: The Cornish Rex."

Many Blessings and Much Love to You, Your Angel Fur Kids and Fur Kids at Home!

Hi, Dottie, the one for Cats and Dogs from Drs Foster and Smith is the one you want - - the blue tube, which is the last example in your post. I always get the larger tube because it lasts longer.

I'm glad I was able to help. Several years ago one of the nurse's in the office where I work had a dog who had puppies and one of the puppies was not thriving at all. The vet diagnosed it as infantile diabetes, and was on an IV glucose drip periodically throughout the day. When the drip was operating, the puppy would rally, but once the drip stopped the puppy would crash. I told her about the Nutri Cal - - she got some and the puppy survived - - and thrived. Don't know where it is now or how it's doing, but the stuff does work, and I hope it helps Styx Kitty.

I'm taking the next couple of days off from the viper pit to be home with my precious Noah. Have bills to get ready to pay and other projects to work on. And I'm looking so forward to just being home with my Noah for a few days.

Please know you and your precious babies are in my thoughts and prayers, and will look forward to knowing how things are going.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Thank you so very much, Moon Beam! {{{{{Hug}}} That's the one I'm going to order and get it in the larger size. Sure hope it helps Styx kitty like it did that precious puppy. How wonderful that you told your coworker nurse about the Nutri-Cal supplement and it did so well for her fur baby. That's great news and I pray that the puppy is still thriving.

You deserve a couple days off from the Viper Pit, Moon Beam. Please give sweet Noah kitty hugs and kisses from me!

I hope that life is treating you kindly, Moon Beam.
