QUOTE (eellyyoobb @ Oct 6 2004, 05:27 AM) Thankyou everyone, it means a lot to me. Me and my mum (mom for americans!) went to get him at about 8:30 am today. I walked in and the lady said ''hes waiting for you'' then she walked out and came back with him fully wrapped in a blanket. I didn't feel any sadness at all, and when she put him in my arms it just felt 'right', like I was taking care of him the way he wanted. We put him in the back in a box then had to go visit my nan. We were there about an hour, then we came home and our original plan was to leave him outside in a plastic box thing, but I carried the box into the house and put his cushion down in the spot it always was. I slowly unwrapped it, and when I first saw his face I was shocked, his eyes were WIDE open and so was his mouth. I burst into tears because it looked like he was so scared and frightened. My mum was really sad also. After a while I just stroked him and told him he was back home. We sprayed some strong perfume around (he didnt smell AT ALL, but just incase) and left him on the bed. He is still there now, its SO good to see him back there again and I am really not sad anymore, I am so content that I have seen him again and he is sleeping on his favourite cushion! Were gonna dig a hole and then bury him when my brother in law comes around later. I don't know how to describe what I am feeling, its almost bittersweet. Anyway I will come back later and tell you about Barney's final journey. Once again thanks everyone. Hi again Eelly, I wouldn't read too much into the "expression" on Barney's face when you unwrapped the blanket. I've been with two of my babies in their final moments, and both times were incredibly peaceful. They didn't suffer at all, they just fell asleep and left their bodies. But their eyes didn't close, and all of their muscles went slack. (I even tried closing Kirby's eyes a few times, but couldn't make them stay closed. I guess maybe that's where the old "pennies on the eyes" thing came from?) My thoughts and prayers are with you and Barney. Maybe he's playing with Kirby near the Rainbow Bridge? -- Daryl |

You done good Eellyyoobb.
You're lucky to have such an understanding family. You will have a place to come and talk with Barney any time you want and the comfort of knowing that he isn't 'too far away'. And I'm sure Barney is happy at the rainbow bridge. |

Thanks Gort. I have an overwhelming sense of relief and happiness that in the end, I was able to take care of him. I hope that if he is aware of my actions he appreciates what I did for him yesterday. Just seeing him on his favourite bed, sleeping as usual was so comforting.
So now I just have to try and adapt to life without Barney. I can honestly say that without him, my life would have been so much worse. He made my life better, he made each day happier and I am so proud of him. Every time I come into the house, I still say ''Hiya Barney!'' because he hasn't left. He will be with me, by my side , forever and ever. ![]() |

Can anyone who made comments earlier comment on my final journey with Barney back at home? It would be nice to hear your opinion on it.

Yes, you did a wonderful job and you and your mom were very strong and brave to go and get Barney and bring him home. It is really difficult to see them after they have left their earthly bodies. I know. I remember very well. The expression you saw on little Barney's face does not mean that he was in pain when he died. That's just what happens when the body goes slack and the muscles relax.
I know Barney left this earth knowing how very much you loved him. You brought him home for one last time and let him rest there awhile. Your precious little Barney is at the Rainbow Bridge playing with all of our little dogs and cats and kitties. I just know he is. The grave with the cross and his cute little pictures is so sweet. As for me, what I'll remember about Barney is him lying on the bed protecting his bags of food! Love, Marcia |

I do too, but that's okay. He was a very precious little guy! YOU have the memories, and you always will. You won't ever forget, but one day it won't hurt so very much.

lol, wanna know how we chose Barney?
When I was 7 and we went to get Barney, me, my brother mum and dad arrived at the guys house. He was an eccentric German with a big scary house. We walked in and there was about 15 Yorkshire terriers running around and yappying so loud we could hardly hear ourselved think! My brother and me played with all the pups and when it came to making the decision, we had to choose the dog that never yapped and ran around endlessly. One puppy had went and sat by a shopping bag my mum had brought in. It had a few items of food (it was about an hours journey away). This little puppy was sniffing through the bag and then just sat next to it whiile all his brothers and sisters ran around playing with me and my brother! We had to choose him ![]() And thats why Barney always guarded bags of food. He was a nosey, greedy little thing!! But I wouldn't want him any other way |
