I just watched the video, and I too do remember seeing him read it on Johnny Carson. At the time I hadn't gone thru a pet loss, and I still thought it was a touching poem. The actor Mickey Rourke, in an interview with Barbara Walters last year, talked about some tough, suicidal times he had been thru, and talked about his deceased dog (he wore a pendant of the dog's picture around his neck), and how having his dog saved his life. Kota helped keep me alive all these years. The pain of missing her is like have a succession of mini heart attacks, seems like it'll never end.
