I give my cats dry food, and split a can of wet food each evening four ways. Lately though, I've noticed it smells nasty. I wouldn't eat it, why should they want to? Half of it gets left in the bowl, wasted. So.... I'm thinking of making homemade food for them. Has anybody done this? What worked? One friend serves her cats a bit of raw ground turkey, with a few veggies diced in. Ideas and suggestions welcome! ~Kimberly

You had any luck with the homemade food thing? I've been thinking about doing it for a while myself. Actually, I've tried it before but with multiple cats it was like one loved it and another thought it was so-so, or would get sick. What kind of canned food do you use that smells so bad? Maybe try a higher quality canned food, like Wellness or something like that?
Here a page I came across you might want to check out with a raw food recipe. http://www.creationsgarden.com/McKayArchiv...ustForCats.html

Just happened to see this post. Fed my siamese raw homemade diet, after diagnosed with chronic renal failure. Used chicken , very slightly boiled to remove surface bacteria. Mixed with chicken liver, little pumpkin or squash, eggshellpowder, and lots of added nutritional support. You must be very careful about adding proper nutrients, in specific amounts. It is very time consuming, but he did great with it. There are premade/partiall premade raw diets available online, such as felines pride/felines instinct. Google raw cat diet and will give lots of info and articles. Also some decent canned, such as wellness, EVO, natural brand. Main thing is meat as first ingredient, and no grains, corn gluten and by-products(beaks, hooves, fur etc)

Hi Kimberly:

I just came across your post, (I guess I didn't see it back in February), but there are a few topics around here about feline diets, home cooked & raw, etc....

A few sites that I have found helpful over the past 18 months are:

http://catinfo.org/

http://www.felinespride.com/aboutus/mission.aspx

http://www.catnutrition.org/index.php

http://www.yourdiabeticcat.com/ << great info, even if you don't have a diabetic cat.

Hope this helps.

Love, Denise
