Hi all,

For anyone who has a cat that has been diagnosed with IBD, don't give up on them. Our little grey tabby Miss Kitty developed this 6 years ago. It was so bad that her liver began failing. With advice from the vet we began treating her with prednisone and Pepcid. We had to force feed her for two months before she began eating enough on her own.

Last month she began having the same symptoms of IBD. An ultrasound ruled out intestinal blockage and cancer so we started her again on the prednisone, occasional force feedings, belly rubs, and Reglans. Tomorrow she begins a drug similar to prednisone but it isn't absorbed in the system nearly as much so the side effects should be less. We caught it early this time and she is already eating on her own again. Miss Kitty is now almost 13 years old. Our vet was surprised the first time we pulled her through. He said that most of his customers had put their pet to sleep instead of persistently feeding and medicating them. IBD can be dealt with and the furkid can live a long and happy life if you just catch it early and are willing to get them through it. biggrin.gif
