The illness came on suddenly. My Jemima wasn't breathing properly. We rushed her to the vet's. There was fluid around her heart & a partially collapsed lung. My husband didn't want her to become a pincushion with all the tests they proposed and with an extremely poor prognosis. We made the decision to put her down. She was 15 years old. I will miss her especially when she curled up against me at nights or when she sat up on her back paws or when she wanted my attention she would tap her paw on my elbow. I know our other cat, Checkers (he's 8), is looking for her so he's getting lots of extra hugs. I had to share this with you especially after reading all of the posts of other who have and are coping with pet loss. This site is invaluable.

Well, Jemima was 15 1/2 years old. Her birthday is June 1st, a day after mine. She's a Siamese cross but mostly Siamese. My husband nicknamed her "Mouse" as he said she looks like a rat when she ran through the house. Her colours were black & white. A smart cat as she played fetch without being trained. My husband did have her trained to jump through hoops. She was more my cat than his. At night when I was sitting on the couch, she always wanted to sit on my lap. If I didn't give her attention when she wanted it, she would tap her paw on my elbow. Or she would sit up on her back paws and wave her front ones. At night, she always curled up with me. She's the second of three cats. The first one, Harriette, has been gone 7 years (liver disease). Our third one, Checkers, is 8. Thank goodness we have him.
Thank you for caring. I need this. My husband isn't saying much. In fact, he hasn't mentioned her at all since we put her to sleep. He doesn't handle something like this very well. Me, I wear my heart on my sleeve.
Thank goodness I found this site.

Anne,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Jemima sounds like such an extraordinary cat! I also lost my baby Schtoobing suddenly. I thought he was doing better with his CRF on Thursday, on Friday the vet found a tumor, and on Monday morning 11/13/06 he passed away. I understand what you mean about not wanting to make your baby a 'pin cushion' for testing. Schtoobing had lots of blood work at the vet's and sub-Q fluids at home, and part of me wishes I hadn't put him through all that.
I also understand about wearing your heart on your sleeve. Like Renee, I've learned so much from the folks on this site- they have shown me that it's perfectly ok to grieve how ever I need to. I also realized that for all the heartache I'm going through, I wouldn't trade a second of it, if it meant I wouldn't have had my Schtoobing in my life. I was so blessed to have him.
Please remember that you are not alone. I wish you comfort and peace.

Anne,
You were so lucky to be with Jemima for those 15 1/2 years. A real blessing, and what a wonderful baby you were blessed with! Just remember the bond you shared can never be broken by anyone or anything. She will always be with you, please know that!!

Anne,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Your Jemima sounds like such a sweetie, and full of character. You'll always have those memories and our pets never really leave us, I truly believe that.
Your husband's reaction sounds a lot like how my husband dealt with our losses. He never did say much to me when 2 of our kitties left within this past year. I think he thinks I need to just forget it and move on, and enough already with the sadness that still comes to me. If it weren't for this site, I would've just had to bottle everything up inside, and that's never a good way to handle any loss. So please come and vent anytime, and let us know how you're doing. We all understand how these things can overwhelm us. Take care - Barbara

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Jemima was so beautiful! So different with the black head and white tummy. You were so lucky to have her for 15 years. She sounds so special and cute.
We lost our Moustache kitty on 10/23/2006, he was only 10. We miss the little guy so much.
Sorry it took me this long to tell you this, I try to come often to the board but my grief and craziness only lets me answer sometimes. I hope you understand.
Thinking of you
