To All Who Fear For Their Other FurBabies:
It's okay and normal to worry!
Never feel foolish for being frightened about the chance of losing one of your other Babies after you experience a loss. It is the way most of us feel after going through the nightmare. But it is true that our other pets sometimes grieve just as deeply as we do, and at times it can make them very depressed. Since my Simple passed, my youngest cat, Cinderella, has not been herself, and went three days without eating, which is rare, because she is a 17 pounder. A friend who is a Vet Tech told me to try to keep her routine as close to normal as possible, and feed her the same as always, but try staying with her and talk to her at mealtimes. It did work, but she is still sad. Simple took her as her own kitten when I brought her home, and even in Simple's last hours Cinderella stayed right by her side, cleaning her and kissing her. It takes time, but never feel foolish about voicing your fears, we are all here to help.
Your friend in grief,
Cindi

I have seen grief in my other animals also. My other cat, Prince, stopped using their shared litter pan. He was skeptical about eating, until I tempted him with tuna. He has cried for love a lot more than normal. He used to just plop down on you when he wanted attention. I have even seen my dogs affected. My oldest boy was very nervous for a few days, he is part border collie and extremely sensitive. I was unsure if they were reacting to my obvious sadness or feeling their own loss, but now I believe it is their own way of dealing with missing a part of their animal pack.

we lost our baby three days ago due to a tragic drowning accident. he bonded with my moms dog, buddy. Now, buddy sits on a becnh outside and stares out the screen window. it is heart breaking, but we stay with him and love him and try to help him through it. loving and helping him actually helps us too!
