Punky's Mommy

After Punky died my sister made me an iDVD with a slideshow of all the Punky photos she had. It was set to this song by Green Day. I never paid this song much or any attention when it came out in the 90s, but it sent shock waves through me when it was paired with all the photos of my baby, some I had never seen before. I happened to hear it again last night somewhere else and I broke down. God this song speak to me. I feel like it is being sung to me about my end with Punky. I want to say to Punky I LOVE you SO MUCH baby and "I hope you had the time of your life" (smiling and crying)...
Time of Your Life
-by Green Day
Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why.
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
So take the photographs, and still-frames in your mind.
Hang it on the shelf of good health and good time.
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial.
For what it's worth, it was worth all the while.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

I have never heard the song before but how wonderful it was of your sister to do that for you. Keep it close to your heart and treasure it always I understand both the tears and the crying at the same time. My sister has some pictures that I don't have and she is going to have some made for me.
Love, Ann

You can hear the song here...many of you will recognize it. Its the sixth song down on the list (The Time of Your Life). You can close your eyes to the video..it's nothing much.

I heard the same song on the radio the other day. I had not heard it for a long time. I instantly thought of my Luba's quick and unexpeted passing. Especially the "something unpredictable, and in the end it's right" part. I started bawling right in then and there.
I'm glad you posted this.

The lyrics are beautiful, thank you so much for posting them.
I've found myself listening to a lot of gentle type music stations since Ellie died. One song that's been played a lot and I've come to love, is Kirsty McCall's "Thank you For The Days."
I can't find the lyrics online so that I can post them. But here are some of the words.
Thank you For The Days - Kirsty McCall
Thank you for the day
Those endless days
Those sacred days
You gave me
I'm thinking of the days,
I won't forget a single day,
Believe me.
Days I'll remember all my life
Days when you can't see wrong from right
You took my life, but then I knew that
very soon you'd leave me
But its all right
Cos I'm not frightened of this world
believe me
I'm thinking of the days
Those endless days,
those sacred days you gave me
I bless the light,
I bless the light that shines on you
believe me.
And tho' you're gone
You're with me every single day
Believe me
Thank you for the day
Those endless days
Those sacred days
You gave me
I'm thinking of the days,
I won't forget a single day,
Believe me.
