Our Baby Boy Nipper

It is three days since we had to make the most terrible decision of our lives, Nipper (our Border Collie) had been sick for a few weeks, he was passing blood in his urine, the vet gave us tablets hoping this would clear up the problem. This did not help. he thought it might be his prostate or kidneys. He was 15 years and 2 months old. We had him from when he was 4 weeks old. He had also gone blind in his left eye, and though we were still able to take him out for short walks, it was a bit of a struggle. He had arthritis and was on medication for that. He was almost deaf, and could only hear you if you shouted. We got up on Monday morning and he was banging into everything --- it seems he had gone blind in his right eye. We called the vet and he came and told us this was in fact correct. We had to make the decision that we had dreaded for 15 years. We had him give him the injection while we stroked and kissed him and told him that we loved him, and even though it broke our hearts it was a very peaceful ending to a very extraordinary life. He was a character and we will never forget him. It was the most terrible day of our lives and we are trying to deal with our grief. We just hope that it gets better, well it certainly can't get any worse. We have been reading some of the postings on the website and it is helping us come to terms with our trauma. We know it is normal to feel this way and speaking to people that have been through it helps enormously.
