My beloved poochie-cat passed away last night after taking ill a month ago. I will miss him terribly. He had a tumor.

I call him my poochie-cat because I think he thought he was a dog, or at least part dog. He wasn't aloof, like you hear a lot of people describe cats. He always greeted me when I came home, with a few meows, and he had this thing where he would paw the tops of my feet. That's how I knew he really liked you, if he would paw at your shoes. He would growl like a dog whenever people walked by the house, or when the doorbell rang.
He would lick my face like a dog does. He used to play fetch with a wadded up piece of paper.

But he was always purring, or rolling on his back in the warm sun, or playing with sticks or feathers just like cats love. He loved to lay in the leaves under the bushes, and watch the world go by.

I had been out of town for work when he got the sickest, and it was painful getting the daily updates by phone from the vet. I got into town last night and went immediately to the animal hospital, and spent an hour and a half with Otis in my arms. I put him to bed there at the vet's, and went home to await the results of the sonogram they were to do later that night. They found a tumor near his pancreas, liver and stomach, and we all realised there wasn't anything we could do. He was given some pain meds, and passed on in the night.

He was my best buddy for 15 years. I will miss him. I am thankful for those 15 years. I am thankful for this "cybershoulder". The vet assured me I'll see him again eventually, and I take comfort in that too. 'Til we meet again Otis............

Hi Dan,

Your Otis sounds like he was such a joy. I own dogs, but I have always heard that cats are usually aloof. It really made me smile to read the things he would do, just like a dog smile.gif

I can't imagine losing him after 15 years. How lucky you both were to have found each other in life. wub.gif

You will be reunited someday, and in the meantime his memories and spirit will be with you always. I am always talking to my sweet Rachael, all the time!

Dan,

It sounds like you and Otis had a wonderful life together! I'm so sorry that you had to lose him.

I lost my cat of 15 years to kidney failure just a little over a month ago...I know how hard it is. I have two other cats who were left behind but even though they are here the house feels so empty with her gone.

He is not suffering anymore, remember that at least.

There are so many caring people here...post often.

Hang in there

Hi Dan,
Your little Otis must have brought a lot of pleasure to you. I am sorry that you lost him. It must have been so cute to hear him growl like a dog and play ball with you too and all the other wonderful things he did. I can hear the love you had for Otis in every word. It is never easy to watch them become so sick and leave our sight. Like you so many of us take comfort that we will see and hold our babies again some day.

Chili Bean was our son's chihuahua but we kept her often throughout her life and she stayed with us for the last 9 months of her life. Chili Bean also had asthma and heart failure. We will see you in Heaven my precious darlings.

15 years, it is a long time, I am sorry about your little guy, I lost my little girl Summer a couple of years ago, she was my little comforter, we ar the special ones that have the ability to love our animals so very deeply, and the day that we all have dreaded is what brought us all together here. I am so glad I found LS it has been release of pain. At this point, I am just trying to learn to cope with the sudden change in my life, it has been a hard road. I just want to say I am sorry that you had to go through this, we all understand here. Pamela

You and Otis had fifteen years together and I know you're very thankful for the time you had together. I fully understand and share your pain. Talking about your life with Otis with all of us here at LS will help so much with the grieving process. I'm truly sorry for you loss. I do believe you and Otis will meet again, we will all be reunited with our pets someday and what a wonderful day that will be.

Dear Dan:

I am soooooooo very, very sorry to hear of the passing of your sweet, precious, Otis.......

Somewhat confusing...........but, when my I had my sweet Ernestine here with me, and then my boyfriend Ben
moved in with me..............he had a beautiful sweet furkitty boy named "Scooter", (previously called 'Otis')',
because my Ernestine was ill and close to 20 years old............my mom adopted Scooter wub.gif biggrin.gif smile.gif ............

The two veterinarian's that we had said that my Ernestine would only be okay by herself, and my mom loves furcats.............so, all worked out very, very well...... wub.gif

Yes Dan, I AGREE THAT 15 YEARS IS A LONG TIME...............but, it's not a very, very long time...... I know that you and your sweet Otis will see one another again, in this lifetime!!! No question.......

Ben and I had to put our sweet Ernestine asleep when she was two months shy of 20 years old..........That's a
long time.........really............. But, it was God's Will that she stay with us for that long!!! biggrin.gif

I KNOW FOR SURE THAT WE WILL ALL SEE OUR SWEET FURBABIES ON THE OTHER SIDE, DAN..............NO QUESTION
THERE.................
AND, THERE, WE WILL ALL BE REUNITED FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!!!
THAT WILL BE A WONDERFUL GIFT...........

God Bless You, My Friend...............

Until then. our sweet "furkids" will be taken care of by St. Francis............until such time that we can go to the
Other Side, and Claim Them...........Where we will walk into Eternity Forever & Ever............

God Bless You...........Now and Forever...........

Love, Denise, Ben, Ms. Lucy and Mr. Yoster xo

I would just like to thank everyone who has read this thread, and/or posted replies. It made a really tough time easier to bear. I still miss Otis, but the LS forum provides one of the most comforting feelings: knowing that you are not alone.

thanks

Dan
