Dear Pamela,
I am glad that Gato slept in bed with you, he must have wanted to comfort you. What is really sad is how so often think that dogs, cats, and birds are not very smart and don't know much. Gato must have know that Moose was in there when he cleared off the clothing to get to the chest.

When I first lost Chili Bean Amber the kitty that is so bad right now slept in bed with me. I posted about it how she never stays more than a few minutes laying down with me but that night she stayed for hours. She knew that I was hurting so bad and she tried to lick away my tears.

The rest of the animals went around the house looking for her they were all quiet. Even my husbands quaker parrot did not talk or make any noises the day Chili Bean died. His bird Chico says around 80 things or so and even he knows what he is talking about.

Let us hold on dearly to any remaining babies we have, all through the years I could never get enough of holding Snookie or being with her. I have been loving on all my fur grand babies all the more too. Once again I am so glad you were able to post pics.
Love, Ann

My girls went to the Rainbow Bridge 6 weeks and 3 days apart.
Snookie had cushing's disease, and later developed diabetes. Both had cancer, Snookie had cancer of the liver, and Chili Bean had cancer of the pallet. Chili Bean was our son's chihuahua but we kept her often throughout her life and she stayed with us for the last 9 months of her life. Chili Bean also had asthma and heart failure. We will see you in Heaven my precious darlings.

Yes, they certainly know. And they grieve. How moving that your cat did that.

Falkor became quite despondant for a while after Luba died. They feel our grief as well as their own.

Falkor refused to touch any of the toys that he and Luba used to share. As soon as I bought him some new ones he wanted to play, but no way was he going to touch anything that had been hers. It was quite different when the foster dog left to go to a new home: he grabbed her toys happily.

Also, after Luba died Falkor would not go on the couch/bed or anywhere else she had been. The first week I thought that he might like to sleep near where her spot was, but he CRINGED when he went near it.

It was so sad.

Like Steph has stated, I am amazed at how much our other furbabies seem to know and understand. Since Rachael was the oldest and "alpha" dog, she had all the "best" spots in the house....her dog dish was in the best corner in the kitchen, her dog bed was right in front of the fireplace, she slept on a certain side next to me in bed, etc.

The first week after Rachael passed, I tried moving Danny's dish, dog bed, pat next to me in bed, etc. to the "better" spots. He wouldn't go near them! After time, I thought he would be able to start eating or sleeping in those places. We just bought a brand new dog bed and placed it in front of the fireplace (a prime spot now the colder months), where Rachael used to have her's. He STILL won't go near it.

He's been fine now, and I only see a happy dog, yet he refuses to go near "Rachael's" spots in the house.
