I'm really sorry to read about what happened to your girlfriend's cat. I came here because I'm really upset over the sudden death of my cat, Samantha. She also had hepatic lipidosis and was in liver failure. It does happen when cats stop eating for whatever reason. The vet said my cat had pancreatitis as well, which is what probably caused her to stop eating (diagnosed with ultrasound). If they lose a lot of weight suddenly, their livers get flooded with fat cells and fail. Very fat cats are more prone to it, but it can happen to normal-weight cats as well. It's a big reason to keep your cats trim :-( It happened so fast - just a few weeks ago, she seemed her normal self.

I went the aggressive treatment route and she had a feeding tube put it, but would still vomit. And somehow her tube was dislodged and she appeared to have choked to death. It was horrible to find her that way and i'm beating myself up with guilt: why didn't I notice sooner that she was sick, why didn't I take it more seriously when I noticed she was eating less, was I careful enough with the tube, etc. etc. I don't know if she would've made it had that not happened with the tube. She went downhill so fast.

Anyway, I'm rambling on. I really, really miss my cat. Don't let your cats get fat :-/

Dear Annham,

I am so sorry for your loss. You came to the right place. I found wounderful friends here and so will you.

Please don't beat yourself up for trying your best to love and care for your cat Samentha. I did the samething when Stymy died ... you know, I should have feed him a different diet, paid more attention to him or etc. But now I look back and I know I did everything I could have done to help him. Stymy had lymphoma and because of his age and the type of cancer we choose not to do Chemo. I might have prolonged his life a month or two but he could have been very sick.

So you see I understand how you feel but remember you gave her alot of love and you did the best you could do. That all our furbabies want is to be loved.

Vicki

Maybe Sam's feeding tube accident was a blessing in disguise (please don't think me horrible to say this) , but it was AN ACCIDENT. You could not have prevented it. It is NOT YOUR FAULT - DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF. My heart broke to hear how you found Samantha, but she is at rest now; God needed her to help him bring the other kids to the Bridge; Sam had what it takes to get the job done, so that is she was needed to be his right-hand. My own Princess Angel was terrible with directions, so Sam had to help show her the way. She got lost a lot, even around the house, so she now is up there, without me, but.........This is the beginning of DAY SIX for me without her...I just want to die. Crap. I feel like my life is over.
