Hello, I am new here. I just lost my dog Dylan unexpectedly on Saturday night(3/14). She was only 8 years old. Dylan was my whole life as I am a single female. We had a special bond. I am devastated. Does anyone know of any recommended reading that might be helpful with regards to dogs and the afterlife? Thanks in advance. Your help is much needed and appreciated.

Hi, Miki, please permit me to offer you my sincerest sympathies in the physical loss of your beloved Dylan. Losing a companion is never easy regardless of the circumstances or how long we are blessed with the privilege of their company. Losing a companion unexpectedly and at a young age intensifies the grief.

If you go to the "home" page you will see a link to reading materials that may help you in your grief adjustment journey. You can also do an internet search for pet loss related books / articles.

Miki, this grief journey is one of the most painful experiences you will know on this side of eternity. It is a journey that can only be traveled one day at a time, sometimes one moment at a time for you are now on a journey that is filled with first withouts and the memories that can be all too painful right now that include this time yesterday, last week, last month, last year to endure. One of the many things you need to remember is that you are not alone in your grief journey - - we are here for you for as long and as often as you need us.

Although your beloved Dylan is no longer physically with you, Miki, there is one thing that will never change - - the love bond you and your beloved Dylan share. Love is eternal, Miki - - it is not restricted to the physical laws of time and space. Your beloved Dylan's sweet Living Spirit continues to share your earthly journey as she always has and always will - - for she is always and forever a part of your heart and memories, Miki - - she is always and forever a heartbeat close to you.

I know all too well when our hearts are entrenched in deep grief there are no adequate words in any language that can soothe the searing pain of sorrow. Still, I hope the words I share with you will offer you some measure of comfort, support, encouragement, and hope as you travel your grief adjustment journey.

Thank you so much for honoring us in sharing your beloved Dylan with us, Miki. Perhaps sometime you will feel up to sharing a picture of her with us - - but only when / if you want to. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, and please let us know how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Thanks so much Moon Beam for your kind words. I truly hope you are right about seeing Dylan again. She and I had a special bond. I am in great pain right now and struggle through each day, much like the others on this message board. I think the fact that she was only 8 and died so suddenly without warning is adding to my pain. I never got to say goodbye and now I do nothing but dwell on the events of that day, leading up to the moment of her death. All I can do is take it one day at a time. Again, thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my post. I ordered 7 books tonight, all dealing with pet loss, some touching on pets in the after life. Thanks again. Miki

Hi, Miki, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing. I'm so glad you have been able to find books that may be able to help you navigate your grief adjustment journey. Please let me try to reassure you that what you are feeling and experiencing is very normal deep grief - - very painful both emotionally and physically, yes - - still very normal. Particularly during the deep grief it can actually feel like you are losing your mind because of the deep sorrow - - which is one of the many reasons why this grief journey is referred to as a horror roller coaster ride. This is one of the many reasons why you need to remember you are among friends here who truly do understand what you are going through, and we are here for you for as long and as often as you need us.

I hope today is treating you kindly, Miki, and that you will have a peaceful evening blessed with your beloved Miki's sweet Living Spirit to comfort you. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, and please let us know how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam
