Hi all,
We had to put our beloved dog down last Friday. He was only 4 1/2. I can't go into the details because it is still too painful. I always considered him my puppy, even though when he was at his healthiest he was 98 pounds. I always called him my puppy, no matter how big he was. He was not only the first dog we got as a family, he was the first dog I'd ever owned (my husband had one other dog). I never thought it would hurt to lose a dog, but he was so much more than "just a dog". He truly was a significant part of the family, he was my third child. He was our companion and I always saw the unconditional love he had for each of us and we loved him deeply. We still love him deeply and always will.

Thank you for having this forum. It helps to know we are not the only ones feeling this way.

Hi, ar, please permit me to offer you my sincerest sympathies in the physical loss of your beloved puppy. Losing a companion is never easy regardless of the circumstances or how long we are blessed with the privilege of their company. Losing a companion at a very young age intensifies the grief.

AR, this grief journey is one of the most painful experiences you will know on this side of eternity. It is a journey that can only be traveled one day at a time sometimes one moment at a time for you are now on a journey that is filled with all the first withouts and the memories that can be all too painful right now that include this time yesterday, last week, last month, last year to endure. It is a journey that is filled with many different emotions that can overwhelm us all at one time which is why it is frequently referred to as a horror roller coaster ride as we try to reconcile all the whys, what ifs, and if onlys that haunt and torture our hearts and minds when we are so emotionally vulnerable.

This grief journey is one of adjusting to the physical absence of your beloved puppy, and it is a very painful adjustment both emotionally and physically. As painful as this adjustment is, there is one thing that will never change - - the love bond you and your beloved puppy share. Love is eternal, ar, - - it is not restricted to the physical laws of time and space. Your beloved puppy's sweet Living Spirit continues to share your earthly journey as he always has and always will for he is always and forever a part of your heart and memories - - he is always and forever a heartbeat close to you.

I know so very well from first hand experience that when our hearts are entrenched in deep grief there are no adequate words in any language that can soothe the searing pain of sorrow. Still I hope the words I share with you will offer you some measure of comfort, support, encouragement, and hope as you travel your grief adjustment journey.

Thank you so very much for honoring us in sharing your beloved puppy with us, ar. Perhaps sometime you will feel up to sharing a picture of him with us - - but only when / if you want to. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, ar, and please let us know how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Dear ar and family,

I'm sending my heartfelt sympathies your way on the physical loss of your sweet puppy. He is still right there with you--but I know it is not the same as having him physically as well as spiritually there.

Write any time. I am glad you found this site!

Sending prayers of peace to you,

Kathy

So sorry to hear of your loss, ar. We had to put our kitty down yesterday and he was only about 6. We're going through the same situation now and it hurts!! sad.gif

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and messages of support. I miss him so much and there is such an emptiness now, but we are getting through it.

So very sorry for your loss. I know too well how badly it hurts.

You will find lots of comfort here. Although not much will probably help right now. But know you are not alone.

Take care of yourself and remember the good times.

Lynette.
