Last March I was scratching Shiloh's neck when I noticed a little lump. Within a week the lump had doubled in size. I took her to the vet and after a series of tests, antibiotics, more tests, and surgery, Shiloh was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. We spent the spring and the summer taking weekly trips to the oncologist. Shiloh tolerated the chemo-therapy very well, and because Shiloh was young and a mixed breed we were all hopeful that she would be in remission for a long time. In August our hopes were dashed...the vet announced that Shiloh was coming out of remission. Since Shiloh was still under going chemo-therapy, coming out of remission was a bad sign. We continued doing a less aggressive type of chemo, but no matter what we did the cancer kept coming back. Through all the tests, pokes, prods, and trips to the vet, Shiloh's attitude was amazing. She never lost her love for life. Up until two days before she died, she looked forward to her daily walk, digging in praire dog holes, chasing birds and squirrels, and just living. On Sept. 16th she had no appetite and seemed lethargic, by the next day she could barely walk and she was very uncomfortable. On the evening of Sept. 17th the vet came to my house and put Shiloh down. It's been 6 weeks and 2 days and I miss her so much. I think I've cried more in the last six weeks than I have in the last 6 years. She was my best friend. We did everything together...we walked, we'd take drives, we played, we watched TV. I feel such a void in my life.

I'm glad I've found a place where I can openly talk about how lonely I feel.

Thanks, Jjay for you kind response.

It is so nice to have a place to share my emotions. So many of my friends say, "It's been 6 weeks...go get a new dog." I do want a dog, but the dog I want is Shiloh. She was such a gem. She was my confidant, my friend, my baby...she followed me everywhere, and when I couldn't take her with me, she was always waiting happily for me at the door when I returned. Oh how I miss her.

Last winter I bought a winter coat for her. She really didn't need or want a coat, but she humored me and wore it. I've attached a picture of her in her coat. What a good sport.

Awwww...what an adorable picture...I know how it is to lose a best friend...my pup, who was just a year and a half, passed away tragically just 4 days ago...it's hard for me to talk about it, but I just want to let you know that I do understand.

Love,

Harley's mama,
Jill

I miss you my sweet dogger.

Oh, Shiloh is so precious! And you were obviously sucha good mom to him. My sweet girl, Cassiopia, passed away on Tuesday, and I am having so much trouble even getting through the days! She was my very best friend, my heart and soul, my angel. I am so glad I found people who understand that kind of love. I miss and love her so much! I am here for you as you and everyone has been here for me!
Love,
Christina

I am so sorry for your loss. I do understand how hard to can be. It's been 4 weeks and 2 days since I lost my little girl to cancer. Like you, I tried to fight for her life, but when it became obvious she was only suffering, I had to make the same decision that you did. You gave Shiloh such a good life, though. You kept her happy and fought for her right up to the very end. She knows how much you love her and how hard you fought for her. I'm sure she stayed happy for you and fought herself as hard as she could. Unfortunately, we all know how terrible cancer is. sad.gif

You will always have her precious memories. It's amazing how terribly painful it is when we lose our furbabies. I think we bond closer to them than we do with most people!

Thank you for sharing your story with us. We are all here for you.

Cheri

oh how I understand that terrible "void" that "gut-wrenching " feeling. You and your sweetie sound very much like Bud and I. It was always Bud and I for ten years and now I can't see him or touch him like I always did. All I want is my Buddy boy back.
Buddy too died of cancer, he had a very aggressive Osteosarcoma (bone cancer).
I'm so very sorry!

Dear Kathleen, I love all the pictures of your beautiful girl she really was a doll. I also want to thank you for all your words of compassion that you always give to me. It is through broken hearts that we all join together and help each other work through the pain that lessens to a dull ache but never goes away. Hugs

I no what you mean with wanting another campionion because you love dogs and you want to love another dog but on the other hand you just want shiloh, but then again shiloh would probably want you to show your love for another littlr dog without someone wo loves it as much as you would do.
Love Jaymie x (p.s luvly pic in his coat hehe)
