On Valentines Day my cat Normie, barely 3 years old, died and left all of us devastated. When I took him to the vet, he showed symptoms of Feline Lower Urinary Track Disease. But he was full of mischief, had a great appetite and was as healthy looking as usual. As it turned out he was indeed blocked but there were no complications - his kidneys were not involved; his blood work was normal. The next time I saw him I could hardly believe it was the same animal. I am pretty sure the vet botched his treatment, but there is little point in dwelling on that - its too late.

On that Friday I brought him home so that he could die in peace around his family, at his own house. It was so sad to see my cat in this condition - so unfair.

Normie was beloved by everyone - friends, family, co-workers - even the Fedex guy. He made all of us laugh with his fixation for office machines - even after 3 years the sound of a printer or a fax machine brought him running excitedly. He'd squeeze into the crevice between the wall and the machine so that it was difficult to remove him. He liked to sleep on the wooden beams of my cathedral ceilings - nobody could ever figure out how he got up there. But we certainly knew how he got down - he would jump onto my table which now bears multiple scratch marks - they have suddenly become dear to me. He loved to harass my other cat Coco. He would wait until she was peacefully sleeping on her favorite spot on the top of the couch above the heater. Then he would chase her off, and take the place for himself. These two cats quarreled constantly when we were around - but when we weren't here they chilled together. They were just jealous of one another. Normie would wait for me in the bathtub and pounce as soon as I hit the bathroom - most of the time he would grab the roll of T.P. and shred it in the tub. One always knew where to find it if it was missing! Normie was either in action like a little windup toy, or sleeping.

It is so hard to believe this little ball of energy is gone. I am so sad - but there is nothing to do but accept.

What a beautiful cat! I'm so sorry you have lost him so untimely, and for all the lost promise of the long life you should have had with your baby.

" he would jump onto my table which now bears multiple scratch marks - they have suddenly become dear to me." I know that feeling well....there is a huge gouge in the console of my truck made by my sweet Mackie dog in a moment of elation to be going on a road trip. The window sill in my beautiful BK.'s favorite window is scratched and scarred...it will remain so as long we live here.

My heart goes out to you.

I'd love to see some more pictures, when you feel up to it! Normie was such a handsome boy. It was a long time after mack died before I found the strength to post anything...let alone his picture, but when I did I found it was comforting.

Thinking of you and your family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know this is a very difficult time for you. I lost my Casey in November and I it still hurts. I does get better, but it does take time.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss of Normie. Sounds like he brought you great joy and many happy memories in his short 3yrs. Yes, they are gone in the physical sense(except for the scratch marks, I have some too)but the memories and love remain with us forever...Hugs..Ann

Hi, Mayimba, please permit me to offer you my sincerest sympathies in the loss of your beloved Normie. Losing a beloved companion is never easy regardless of the cir%%stances or how long we have been blessed with the privilege of their company. Your loss is particularly tragic because of the potential harm the treating veterinarian inflicted. Have you spoken with the vet to try to find out why Normie was in worse condition than when you left him for treatment? Did the vet speak with you at all to tell you what happened? Was the vet comforting and supportive when you picked Normie up? My heart just aches for you, Mayimba. This grief healing journey is filled with so many different emotions that are very overwhelming in the beginning. But you are not alone in your journey, Mayimba. You are among friends here, and we will be here for as long and as often as you need us. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, Mayimba, and please let us know how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Thank you for your comforting words Moon_beam. I am sure the vet basically killed my cat with a combination of a lethal drug ##tail and super-poor judgment. But, what is the point of confronting the vet now? My sweet cat is dead. I am new to the area where I live and went to the vet on recommendation from the people who sold me my house. Their pets were probably healthy like my other cat who has never been sick a day in her long life, since 1992. I feel so guilty for not having been as proactive as I am with human health professionals; I have zero trust for doctors, but I trusted a delicate life to these people without question; I did not protect my cat. The vet spoke to me - of course - but I was never satisfied with the answers. I have done a lot of research since and also see that the FIRST DAY they gave the cat metacam - not recommended where there may be renal issues. They gave him so many drugs - who knows? The cure is worse than the disease! Well, thanks again. I am doing OK - trying to comfort my other cat who has been pretty freaked out - specially when I brought Normie home in such a disastrous condition and then he died.

I am sorry for your loss and I hope your boy's passing was peaceful for him.

His time was too short.

Peace and healing are my wishes for you.
