Princess has been watching Elvira raiding the cat food cabinet but she hasn't quite made the connection between getting into a cabinet and stealing food. The other day I opened the medicine cabinet in the kitchen and Princess immediately jumped in. She had a look like "What does Elvira find so fascinating about getting into cabinets?".

I agree...what is so fascinating?
The kitchen cabinets we have tied together with rubber bands. Well, Lucky likes to grab one and pull and figured out the other day...it can break and fall to the floor and then the cabinets are easy to open. He still tries to move the front door handle with his paw on it cause he knows that little item will open the door. Just amazing what they get into. He also got into my undercounter medicine cabinet and like you said...there is something fascinating about getting into things. Now if you leave the door open they may ignore it. I wonder if this is why they like to jump into boxes...at least that is good for the trip to the vet for nail clipping. ![]() Good luck with your cupboards, Ken. I tried tying them with string and rubber bands. Elvira broke both of them. Princess is still learning so she isn't quite as adept at it yet but she is a quick study so I'm sure she will be dragging our treats in no time.

Well, some of our cabinets, the doors face each other so I went to the local Home Depot and got what is called Cabinet Slide Lock. It slides through both door handles and can't be opened by a kitty cat. They have protective type locks like that. It says: "helps keep children from opening cabinets".
HMMMMMMMMMMM........do we know any children they could be talking about? ![]() I only got a couple of these and they do work, else I did the rubber bands. I have rubber bands on the cabinets where the dishes are on the bottom cabinets and when I open a can of food for Lucky, he amuses himself by pulling on the rubber band...I have to reach over and turn on a faucet for just a second and he takes off, comes back for the food and forgets the rubber band. He knows once that faucet is on, my hand will fling wet drops at him if he doesn't move fast. But the Home Depot ones I really use on the kitchen cabinet underneath the sink cause I have Comet and stuff like that I do not want him to get on himself and lick off. Anyway, the plastic ones aren't expensive. Just in the Locks and Latches section...I just asked where cabinet locks to keep "kids" out were. Maybe your kitties can be stumped. ![]() Judy -------------------- LITTLE GUY - May 28, 1991 - Sept 10, 2007 - Always in my Heart.

LOL
I have a cat named Yu that loves cabinets too. Her favorite sleeping place is on top of the fridge. There are 2 cabinets above it and she paws and paws at it to get in. Now if I open the doors just like you said she doesn't want in. Now go figure. |
