Had to send him over the Bridge today. He was injured a couple of weeks ago, and the vets said that he might be OK, but we found out that an infection had set in under the bandages. Vets said he'd have to lose his leg, and even then he still might not make it.....

He came to us last year from rescue, and even though he was very underweight and had some minor medical problems, he always had the happiest disposition -- never wanting anything more than to be near us. We nursed him back to full health in just a few months, and he was in the prime of his life when this happened.

Although our family is devastated by this, we cherish the relatively short time that we had with him, because it was all great. Such a happy, intelligent dog I've rarely seen.
We'll miss him for the rest of our lives.....

Please, don't take your pets for granted. They depend on us for so much, and I've come to realize that we depend on them for so much, too. Although he's out of pain now, and at peace, our family will carry this sadness for quite a while.

So, to my buddy Yukon, thank you for the time you spent with us. You made our lives so much happier, and I only wish that you could have stayed with us longer.

I am so very sorry to hear about your loss of Yukon, your beautiful big boy. I know how your heart breaks. Yukon was so very lucky to have had you to love and care for him, even though it wasn't for as long as you would have liked -- it never ever is.

You are so right. They depend on us, and although we're always aware that there will be much, much pain when they're gone, we cannot even begin to imagine the immensity of the grief, pain and longing until they are gone.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

What a beautiful friend you have in Yukon--he knows how much you love him still! He is in the most perfect place--with all our best friends at the rainbow bridge. He has no troubles there and is frolicking as he did on earth. You were wonderful to him and he knows it. Bless you for recognizing with all your heart the special gift that he gave to you and your family!
Love,
patti

Ginger was part Norwegian Forest Cat. When I first took him in he was a meanie, so his full name was "Gingersnap", and I did not change his name after I learned she was a he.
