Hi people,
I learned today that my very cranky 85 year old mother was not just being "histrionic"
when she demanded (!) that I come to Florida last week--she has cancer. I put off going because she goes to
the hospital and comes out after getting help breathing. this time is different. They found this mass. She has been unable to eat so she probably does suspect that it is the end. But, It comes as a big shock because
she has always had heart trouble (and I thought THAT would be what would "get her" in the end)

It is so strange that my cat Ginger and she share so many parellels, not the least of which is
"crabbiness". I must remember that just liked Ginger hissed (and "didn't mean it") so will be my mother's reaction
when she learns what the tests show (they are trying to put off telling her until I get there).
It seems Ginger was my teacher in more ways than one.

Ginger was part Norwegian Forest Cat. When I first took him in he was a meanie, so his full name was "Gingersnap", and I did not change his name after I learned she was a he.

Patti,

Wow, what a shock indeed. You are so wise to make the comparison that you did---about crankiness! I do think there's a lot more operating in our lives than we can "see". Sometimes we can't see the reason for something until much later, or sometimes we won't understand the things that happened to us during our earthly lives until it's our time to pass on.

GOOD LUCK dealing with the situation with your mother. And please be gentle with yourself! Remember that you have just been through (and are still going through) one of the most painful experiences life can dish out.

Hugs and warmth,

Kathy
