Today I was walking down the street and I saw a tiny bird on the sidewalk. It was smaller than a sparrow and had a pointier beak and yellow breast. It was struggling to move and looked like one of its wings was broken. I'm not sure what type of bird it was, but I felt I couldn't leave it there, terrified and dying as people walked by almost stepping on it. I got a paper towel from a nearby store, picked up the bird with the paper towel and took a taxi to the closest animal medical center, which treats exotic pets, including birds. On the way there, it tried to get out of the paper towel, so I put the paper towel in a diaper I was carrying for my son, who wasn't with me at the time.

I was in a rush and asked the taxi to wait for me at the animal center. I brought the bird inside, told the receptionist what had happened and said I hadn't wanted to leave the bird to die like that. They wanted me to fill out some paperwork, but I left, being in a rush and having the taxi waiting.

I would like to know what happened to the bird, but don't want to call since it would upset me to hear that it died. Probably, I couldn't get any information anyway.

I hope that they, being vets, tried to save its life, but if not, at least it would die without pain, rather than slowly in terror on the street. That picture would have haunted me.

Does anyone have an idea what kind of bird it might have been. I am on the East Coast.

Did it have a little red "crown" on the top of its head? If so, it was a ruby-crowned kinglet and they are beautiful little birds, black wingbars and all!
If the bird was that active, it probably survived...all because of your kindness in rescuing it. St Francis would be proud!

Thank you for taking the time to bring that little guy to the vet!!! Whatever happens, at least he is off that horrible sidewalk.
