Tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. my vet is coming to my home to assist my Spinoza in crossing the Bridge. She was diagnosed with FIP last week. One week ago she was still taping me with her paw to wake me up in the morning. I can't believe it's only been one week and she will be gone from my life tomorrow. I adopted Spinoza from an animal shelter who had her caged for one year. After they gave up on her, they shipped her off to a feed store. The feed store shipped her off to yet another rescue group that changed her name and caged her in a small cage. It took me 3 weeks to track her down. That was 2 1/2 years ago. She is a tiny grey tabby, blind in one eye, 12-14 years old. She lights up my life. She slept in the crook of my legs every single night. And now she is dying. I am so sad. So sad. I wish I hadn't waited so long to adopt her. One year in a cage. She can do a trick. If you put out the palm of your hand, she stands up on her hind legs to reach your hand with the top of her head. She doesn't do it anymore. I know that the decision for Spinoza is the right one, I can't stand to see her suffer. But I love her. I will miss her so much.

I'm so sorry about your impending loss. I know what grief your are/will be going through. Please hold on to the memories you have made with her. She's lucky to have you to make all the right decisions for her.

Such a difficult time for you and your lovely little furry one.
In her heart, I'm sure she's doing that trick every time she sees you, and never forget - you'll see her again one day. Hugs.... Please know that in my heart I'll be standing beside you as it happens, my hand on your shoulder. |

Dear Joelle,
It is always too soon and never the right time to say good-bye. Had it not been for you, sweet little Spinoza would surely have suffered a fate much worse than being with you when she crossed. Try not to burden yourself with the guilt of waiting too long to adopt her. You and she got together when it was time, and I know you made the right decisions at the time. Looking back with should haves and what ifs is as senseless and cruel to yourself as those who mistreated Spinoza were to her. The important thing is that you saved her and showed her the love and devotion she would never have known. Keep that thought in your heart and use it to chase away the sad feelings that are sure to intrude. Please come back to this site as much as you need to. All of us here have either already experienced the pain of loss or are sadly anticipating it. We suffer together, and somehow the grief is a little easier to bear. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Juanita, Mom of Spike (1990-2005) |

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I know all to well the grief you are carrying. Try to remember that Spinoza is not in any pain or suffering which is what we all want for our babies.
Coming here to this site does help because we have all been thru or are going thru the exact same thing. Once again I am so sorry for your loss. -------------------- Emily,
Always in my heart |

I respect and admire you for adopting her and for helping her by making one of the most difficult decisions a person can make. It goes against our grain to make that decision but you know in your heart it is the right one. My prayers are with you and Spinoza and definitely come back to this website. It has helped me tremendously.

I also had my cat pass away due to FIP, today. It is a terrible debilitating disease that strikes so fast, you don't know what hit you. Just think of all the wonderful times you had and that your little one is in a better place, not suffering anymore.

To everyone who wrote me,
Thank you so much, it helps to know there are others who truly understand my loss. I am terribly sad but I have other furbabies who still need me (and me them). Spinoza was one special kitty who will never be forgotten. Joelle |

joelle,
I am so sorry for your loss. I, too, know how difficult it is to say goodbye to a wonderful friend. You did a wonderful thing in adopting Spinoza (especially as an aged kitty) and giving her a life she would have otherwise never known. Because of you, she knows what it feels like to be loved and cherished. There is no doubt that the last couple of years she had with you made up for all of the other years she spent unhappy. You are her hero, that is certain. Please try to remember, when the sad thoughts creep in, the life that you provided for her and feel proud about that. FIP is a dreadful disease, and you surely did the best thing for her in letting her go. It is truly the greatest gift of love we can provide when we sacrifice our own heart to keep the furbabies we love from unecessary pain and suffering. Although it will be 2 years for me on the 28th since I let my girl go, I still struggle with it daily. The only solace I can seem to find is reminding myself what a wonderful life of 16 years that little pound puppy had, and that she knew how much she was loved right up until she took her last breath...so much more than so many other unfortunate furbabies, others just like your Spinoza and my Sasha, that are still in shelters all over the country....ours were truly the lucky ones, loved like no other, when I remind myself of that it is a small comfort... Your friend in grief, Kim -------------------- |
