I just lost my 5 month old boston Terrier PeeWee this memorial day. My family is devistated. You see we just bought a camp to bring family and friends together for some fun and a get way. It was a happy thing. I cleaned outhe camp a couple weeks ago and found some rat poison upstairs under a bed. Of course i cleaned it up and search for more. This Memorial day weekend everyone came up and we had a great time. Monday morning I noticed PeeWee was breathing funny and gums were pale so i rushed her to the emergency vet. He said her lungs were bleeding and it is very serious. Long story short, She did not make it. The vet said it was rat poison. I could not believe this. I cleaned that camp from top to bottom.
I called the former owner and asked her where she had put the poison. She saus she hid around the inside of the camp. I am not trying to blame anyone but I wish she had told me this when I bought the place or at lease cleaned it up knowing we had dogs. I also wish I would have torn that place apart looking for the poison. My PeeWee did not deserve to die this way. We are having a very hard time dealing with this accident and her senseless death. She had such a big personality in a little body. We miss being with us and so does our other dogs. We cant seem to funtion during the day. I have been going through all sorts of emotions constantly throughout the few days. Cant eat, cant do anything, just sick to my stomach. She fit in to our family so perfect. What a shame. Just cant believe this. Rat poison should be made illegal. The companies make the poison look land taste like candy. What would happen if a small child ate this. Its just so unfair. ![]() |

I just saw your post, and I am so sorry!!
![]() How are you doing?? You did everything humanly possible! I'm angry to even think of the former owners having poison in the place. ![]() Your PeeWee, even in his short life, knew, and knows, your love. Maybe for some unknown reason it was his time---but I know it doesn't seem fair. ![]() ![]() I'm so sorry about what happened!!! I can only imagine the outrage and the heartache you've been going through. I agree that rat poison should be illegal !!!!! It shouldn't even be left out for rats. There are humane ways to keep them away. Let me know how you're doing, ok? Love, and prayers for peace, Kathy -------------------- Compassion for all animals. www.earthlings.com

I agree that rat poison is the worst idea ever. We see a lot of rat poison dogs at the clinic where I work, and it is so frustrating. I am so sorry you lost your young boston. I lost my boston a couple of days ago. Their personalities are so huge they leave an enormous void when they are gone.
![]() I don't know how many animals need to be poisoned before people realize not to buy the stuff. |

As I reply to send you my condolences, my eyes are streamed with tears. How horrible this must be for you and your family. Going through any death is tough, but especially one that is so senseless and accidental.
I know you wish you could have done more, but you couldn't have known- who in the world puts rat poison outside? I have to admit, when I see that crap at the store, along with mouse traps and such, I hide them! I have pet mice, and a wild mouse that I finished hand raising, she is the second one I raised that way, so obviously I hate when people try to harm them. We even feed the wild ones that live in our garage for the winter. I don't care what they chew in there, as long as they are warm and safe. I wish I had the words of wisdom to take away your pain, but there just aren't any words that could possibly erase your tragedy, so I am glad to see you at the forum, looking for support. All of us have been through the loss of a furbaby ( or babies) here, whether it was a tragedy, accident, illness, or old age, and we are or have all been hurting like you, so we'll be here to understand and offer support when we can. Please let us know how you are doing and getting through, and try to take care of yourself, you can get really sick from grieving so hard and not eating, drinking, or sleeping normally. My thoughts are with you and yours. Peace, Love, and Prayers, Michelle BTW- megsmom, this must have been VERY difficult for you to read and reply to- I'm so sorry. -------------------- Our beloved Cosmo came to us in June 1995, and died on May 24, 2005.
