The Nightmare Starts Again, heart failure Options

i was posting over the christmas/new year holidays as my 8 year old neopolitan mastiff was dying of heart failure. finaly begining to cope with that and yesterday his surviving mate an 8 year old female neopolitan collapsed with the same diagnosis of enlarged heart and congestive heart failure.lungs full of fluid,strugling to breathe.lasix has pulled the fluid from her lungs for now but i just went through this and know we just have a little time left and we will ultimately loseour fight. i dont know what to do i cant contiue right now donoharm

This is so sad, were they related, its awful for you to loose them so close and of the same condition is unreal.

Hold tight and be strong for her she needs you to keep it all together.

Youll know what needs to be done and when, come on here and screem when you need to , i know i screemed silently into the air a lot those last few weeks.

CHF can be controlled for years with the correct dosage of lasix. If the vet finds the exact balance, you can continue to have your baby. If that is the only diagnosis, not that it isn't enough to deal with, she can survive it. Keep working with your vet.

My sweet Crystal had CHF, enlarged hear, and a heart murmur. We found the correct balance and she began acting normal again for a few months. She was running and playing without struggling for breath. The only reason it finally got her was due to kidney failure too and the treatment for CHF was less fluid and the treatment for kidney failure was more fluid and we couldn't fix either.

Don't get too upset yet. Keep her on Lasix and probably Enalapril (vaso dilator). Ask your vet for a brochial dilator to use in her most labored breathing episodes.

I know you are giving her lots of Love and support. Just don't give up or give in too quickly. I have a human medical degree and people live with CHF for years. So can your baby girl.
