Hello:
On February 18th, I had to put Digger, a corgi mix, to sleep. I had him for almost 15 years He was diagnosed with lymphoma the first part of January and I couldn't accept it. I found him on a side of the road when he was about 6 weeks old and he weighed 1 1/2 lbs and I always said that he was a gift from God. I try not to think about it but I am getting more depressed and stressed out everyday. I sat in Church on Sunday and cried. People do not understand your loss and it makes it harder. My house was so empty that my sister got me a Pembroke welsh corgi that is as sweet as he can be and I love him dearly and he sure does help to have him but I still miss my Digger and still am grieving for him. I wish I still had him. |

I am so sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you. Our furkids who pass on will always be in our hearts and memories. Please do not deny yourself your feelings; Digger was a huge part of your life, and it is natural that you will miss him dearly. Six days ago, we had to have our cat euthanized due to feline leukemia (oh, how I hate that word, and find it is better than "put down"). He had only owned us for about 18 months, and we got him as a stray when he was about a year old. I worried about people not "understanding" and decided to hell with them, these are MY feelings, he was MY furkid and if they don't know how to deal with it, tough. That's when I joined this site, and it has been so helpful. Reading other people's stories helped me understand that what we did was the best and the right thing to do. Reading them may make you cry (every story I read brings tears to my eyes), and when I read your story, I honestly felt your pain. There is no timetable for when your grief "should" abate. Please take care of yourself, and love your new furkid with everything you have.

I'm so sorry about Digger. You were obviously a wonderful fur-parent to have kept him with you and healthy for nearly 15 years.
Don't deny your grief. Let it out. If your new little Pem is anything like my Qorqui was, just bury your face in his fur and let it go. He'll do his best to try to help you through this. This is going to take time. I lost my Qorqui over a year ago and I still find myself tearing up a couple times a week. It's not the gut wrenching pain I felt in the first weeks, it's more of a longing to see her, hold her, touch her again. But it still gets me mighty misty at times. You're right. People don't understand. Unless they have experienced for themselves the special bond with these amazing creatures, there's no possible way they could understand. When you're feeling down, or just want to get something out, stop back here. The people here truly do understand what you're experiencing. We've all, sadly, been there. LS was my lifeline when Qorqui was killed. I don't know what it is about a Corgi. They're not for everyone. In fact, the responsible breeders I've met won't even sell you one of theirs until they're convinced you fully understand what you're getting in to. For those of us that really connect with the little imps, there's nothing better. Take care of yourself. When you feel up to it, tell us more about Digger, and your new little guy too. We're not just all about the sadness of loss here. Lots of us actually find it easier to get through our days when we read about someone that's giving a new furry a good home. All too many never get one, you know. Tim -------------------- Angel Qorqui, A black headed Tri-Color Pembroke Welsh Corgi: 1 Aug 2003 - 2 Mar 2005
