I am waiting for my Son to arrive so we can take Rebel, our beloved 14 year old Siberian Husky for his last ride to the vet. Rebel is suffering and it's time, as hard as I know it will be, I HAVE to let go and do what's best for him. I know I can't let him take that last journey alone so I will hold him as he slips into the afterworld that I know exists for all devoted pets. How does one get through this? I have searched my soul, prayed endlessly, and still no answers come. There are those who say he's :just a dog", but to me he's been my one true friend for his entire 14 year life...and for that I can never express the joy he's been to have around. I could be slefish and ask the vet to keep him going on machines and pills, but he no longer has a quality of life free of pain and suffering. I will miss him terribly, I just have to know he's going to a place where he can run and play without pain and that he'll be with me again one day. Thanks for listening to a rambling old lady.

Dear RebelBoy
First of all the biggest hugs to you. I found this board hours before having to take the same journey to the vets with my beloved Wicket last month. I had many kind posts about being there with him as he left this world and it has certainly helped me. Rebel will never be 'just a dog', you have all your memories to assure you of that. Hang out around here for a while it's a nice place to be when you are feeling like this, lots of people understand exactly how you feel. I cried pretty much endlessly for 48 hours on Wicket's passing, but the messages here that Wicket was now on his way to Rainbow Bridge where he could run and be free from his pain was so soothing to me. I hope he meets Rebel there ![]() In my thoughts Jo |

This is just a quick note to let you know that I am thinking of you and your sweet Rebel. It takes a lot of love and strength to know that Rebel is suffering and needs his rest. Just be assured that you have friends here who care about you and your grief. Trust in the people around you, and God bless. Come back and tell us more about Rebel when you feel up to it.

They will never be "just a dog" or "just a cat", etc... They are our furkids and they have a special place in our hearts.
