I know we are often caught up in our losses but now and then I think we need a good story to help us put things in perspective.
We took our cat Oscar to a new vet in Toronto. Mel Tonkin at the Banks Animal Hospital (I could go ON about how wonderful he was, but I'll leave that for another post). They offered to give us a tour of the back - since they had a bunch of kittens for adoption, and we had wanted to get Oscar his own cat, we went to look. Before we got to the new arrivals, we were shown the room where all the cats stay who are being boarded. One little cat, a grey tabby, had no sign on his cage. The technician told us that he had been abandoned by his owners when they didn't want to pay the vet bill. He was two years old and had been there for 7 months. Nobody wanted to adopt an adult cat when there were so many cute little kittens in the next room. Can you guess the rest of the story? Fifteen minutes later - after a flea bath to make sure we weren't taking anything more than we bargained for - we were leaving the hospital with Oscar and his new brother - newly named Arthur. He's cute, cuddly and a constant reminder of how I'm still needed by somebody - no matter how depressed I might feel. Edgar, Jesse and Tom are probably looking down at us now, happy that we were able to give another one of their cousins a good home. Moral of the story - there is no such thing as a replacement - but the human heart is a much larger place than you can ever imagine - and there's room enough in there for anyone you care to love. Just looking at Arthur and feeling him butt me with his head - my heart may still be broken, but WOW - it still works!!! |

Oh...I'm so happy for you!! What a WONDERFUL thing you did to adopt an older kitty.

I LOVE stories like yours!!!
 I am so happy that you chose that abandoned cat. I do things just like you.... my latest adoption was a 4 year old big hairy funny looking terrier mix. He had been at the pound for 2 months and the people there said NO ONE had showed interest in adopting him. Guess the rest!! My previous 3 adoptions were similar- either older dogs, funny looking dogs, or dogs that had been there a long time. I never am concerned with looks....I just want the dog that needs a home the most! Congratulations on your new "baby". You did a wonderful thing.  Dana |

What a wonderful story! I'm so glad your vet kept Arthur for seven months so that you two could happen into each other's lives that day!

Congratulations on your new kitty!
This also speaks volumes about the vet hospital. That they would keep him there and care for him for seven months rather than just unload him to a shelter somewhere.
