In case anyone doesn't know what polydactyl cats are, they are cats with extra toes. The extra toes are always in the front, sometimes also the back. This picture shows a cat with 6 toes on each front paw. Polydactyls, however, can have 7 or 8 toes as well.

Hi Steve, Well it is all the more toes to rub and hold in your hand or to have rubbed on your face. I guess it means more claws for digging on walls or furniture too. I looked at your beautiful baby you put in another post. I am glad you have a new baby.

Snookie had cushing's disease, and later developed diabetes. Both had cancer, Snookie had cancer of the liver, and Chili Bean had cancer of the pallet. Chili Bean was our son's chihuahua but we kept her often throughout her life and she stayed with us for the last 9 months of her life. Chili Bean also had asthma and heart failure. We will see you in Heaven my precious darlings.

I got to see some of the Hemingway cat descendents when I was on holidays one time. I have never owned a polydactyl cat, but the two with the normal number of toes can get their paws into everything anyway.

Well thank you all for your compliments. I heard the same thing in regard to their personalities. Because they are considered inbred, are they prone to other diseases or medical problems? Does anyone know?

I don't know if there are any problems associated with polydactyl kitties, but I do know those sure are cute paws! It looks like he has opposable thumbs. I bet all the other kitties offer him bribes to unscrew the kitty treat jar! biggrin.gif
