Grieving the lost of Smudge, our 10 year old whom we lost last week after a long fight with renal failure. She was one of the cats poisoned by the melamine tainted food, 3 years ago.

It's been a very difficult week and everything just seems so quiet here without her. I was her main caregiver as far as her subcutaneous treatments, force feedings, and constant attention. Now I feel this huge hole in my heart.

Her ashes will come home this week and it will feel like she is finally coming home again, even though I know in spirit she lives in our memories.

I'll try to post a photo later...

Grieving the loss of Bonnie Prince Charlie (known as Charlie to intimates) who died Friday, March 12, 2010, just one week and one day before his 9th birthday.

Charlie was a West Highland White Terrier who suffered from a congenital kidney condition we only learned about a few short weeks ago. Until the first week of February, however, he was a feisty, funny, wise and wonderful dog who was the greatest blessing in my life from the time I first saw him when he was just three days old to that terrible afternoon three days ago when he suffered a massive stroke as I sat beside him on the sofa, stroking his head and back. In less than a month he went from a happy, healthy 23lbs to a sad and shaky 15lbs, but throughout it all his usual sunny good nature never failed him. Even while having pills shoved down his throat and needles jammed into his neck, he never snarled, snapped, or tried to bite, but only licked our hands as if to say, "I don't understand why you're doing this to me, especially when I feel so bad, but I forgive you."

I owe my life to Charlie, both literally and figuratively. He actually diagnosed a heart condition which three highly trained specialists had missed and were treating in a way that might have killed me had it not been for Charlie's timely warning. He later learned to warn me of cardiac arrhythmias, sometimes even before I felt the symptoms, and twice warned my brother-in-law of oncoming asthma attacks. He loved everyone and everyone loved him, and I will miss him every day of my life until I cross over the Rainbow Bridge to join him.

Sweet little boy Peanut, our rescued rat terrier. He was such a wonderful dog. We were so lucky to have him for 11 years, but that wasn't nearly long enough. He died on 5/15/09 - nearly a year ago and the anniversary of that horrible date is something I'm dreading. Peanut was light, joy, fun, humor. My arms are empty without him. I miss you, Nutter Butter. Always and forever, Little Man - Mama

Dear Bruce's Mom,
I just got BooBear's ashes back on Wednesday, they included 3 poems with it, The Rainbow Bridge, I'm not there and I loved you best, I hope these will help in some small way. In time the pictures will be a comfort but at first they are hard to see. I still have not stopped crying. I still miss him soooo very much.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

I Loved You Best
-Jim Willis 2002

So this is where we part, My Friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best.

Thank you, my friend, for posting those poems. I'm like a sponge lately -- I've been sucking up every word and phrase about our beloved lost children and The Rainbow Bridge, because I want desperately to know that I'll see Bruce again when my time on earth is done. You are a sweetheart to think of others in the midst of your own grief.

Name: Misha

Nicknames: Mishamoo, my love, sweet girl, pretty girl, my teddy bear, the greatest kitty in the world

Date Of Birth: July 12, 1994

Date Went To Heaven: May 22, 2010

Came Into My Life: She was only 8 weeks old. The breeder had too many kittens and she wasn't show quality. If she couldn't sell them cheap she was going to take them to the humane society.

Favorite Activities: She loved to look at herself in the mirror, going outside supervised, being cuddled in my lap, and getting hugs. She loved to be patted for long periods of time. If I stopped she would look over her shoulder like what you going to stop?

She was truly a gift from God. She came into my life when so much was going on. Her sweet gentle nature made me fall in love with her right away. The bond that I had with her was incredible. She was something special to me and the people who met her. She tolerated so well the so many kisses I bestowed upon her forehead. She allowed me to hug her when tears were near. She made me laugh at her antics of head butting the shower curtain while I was taking a shower. It almost seemed she was saying "we not like water Mommy why you in there?!" She gave me unmeasurable amounts of joy.

Misha, I believe you are in heaven and will be waiting for me when my time comes. I hope that the only thing you have to do now is chasing butterflies and rubbing in catnip. I can almost picture you running across a field with flowers the sunlight making your crystal blue eyes sparkle. You are happy and are free to run and play.

wub.gif Mommy loves and misses you so much. My heart aches at the loss of you.

I cannot believe I'm posting on this thread again, not even three months since I lost Foxy.

This is Frank, his actual name was Frankenstein - I was a bit of a literature geek at the age of 15 when I got him hence the name. He was a rescue cat from the RSPCA and he was 12 weeks old when I got him. I had 18 wonderful years with and barely a days sickness in all that time. He was an eccentric old thing and he was spoiled rotten by me, he even had his own bedroom. He died suddenly at home on the 24th of May 2010. He's back with Foxy now and all the other darlings I've lost over the years.

His name is Rex. I say is not was because it feels like he will bark any second to be let back in the house.
He came in to this world sometime in November 1998 and came to live with me on December 31, 1998. I did not pick him then but would pick him
over and over if given the chance. I had to let him go on July 20, 2010 at about 6:30 pm. I did not know it was coming, maybe he did. I miss him more than I can say and I hope he is happy and feels better now. It stormed today and I kept waiting to here him barking at the thunder....I love you buddy and I always will.
I hope you know how loved and missed you are. Storm has been looking for you and grandpa misses you very much (do not tell anyone but he cried for you). I hope you and Newcents are together.

Love,
your mamma See you again someday my best boy.

Winston T. Puppy... the T in his name stands for "The", making his full name "Winston The Puppy"

He came into our live in November 1996, right after we bought our house. He was such a special dog... so much personality, life and vitality. When he died on July 25, 2010, a piece of us died with him, but my life is richer for having known him.

RIP, Winston.

Sasha Gilbert Schiff

October 1993 - July 28, 2010

Attached Image

Beloved companion and best friend. She was a wonderful, amazing dog, and so much more than a pet. She is missed greatly. Sasha, we love you always.

Sasha has always been my girl. I adopted her back in 1995, she was around a year & a half old. I was 25 and single. I thought about waiting until I got married someday, but I am so glad I did not wait! (I didn't get married until 2004 at the age of 34!) I will always remember our first meeting. As soon as she saw me, she rolled over on her back & exposed her adorable white belly, wagging her tail. I knew right then she was my girl. I went to see a couple of other dogs, because I felt like I should, but I kept thinking about Sasha and adopted her a day or two later.

Sasha was with me for 15 years. She was almost 17 when she died. She saw me through numerous boyfriends, jobs, homes, and life stages. It was always Sasha and me, regardless of where we were. I adopted a playmate for her in 2002, Andy, a golden retriever mix. They played together beautifully. They were like brother & sister. Shortly after, I met my husband and got married. We moved into a larger house with a big yard for the dogs to run in. Then we started our family. We have 2 little girls now, ages 3 yrs and 8 mos. They were lucky enough to know Sasha too.

Sasha was happy, playful, friendly, incredibly smart, and of course adorable. When she died I felt like a part of me died with her. My home and my heart will never be the same. I miss her more than words can say.

Sasha, I always tried to take the best care of you that I could, but I know there were times I could have done better - could have paid you more attention, should have let you out sooner, or should have fed you earlier. Please forgive me for those times, I wish I could go back and re-do them.

But now I hope you are running free, jumping on couches, wrestling with other doggie friends, chasing squirrels, eating to your heart's content, barking at everything, and just having a wonderful time, free from every pain. I am so grateful that we found eachother, and I will always love you!!

-Mommy
