I can hardly type through the tears. My cat Sunny has his final earthly appointment at 1:00 today. End-stage kidney failure. I am terrified. I will write more when I can.

Writing to see if anyone has dealt with this, or has any ideas:
Recently, my friend's kitty was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (the type where the intestines have a hard time absorbing nutrients). She was prescribed a medicine for this but because it is in capsule form, it needs to be sprinkled on food---and she has almost no appetite. For the appetite problem, she's tried: 1) Mertazapine but had a bad reaction to it 2) Vitamine B1 injection, and 3) steroid injection. Nothing has worked. She's had in-depth blood testing and everything else is normal. Thanks for reading. Any ideas would be appreciated. Kathy

I'm writing on behalf of a friend's kitty:
Has anyone had experienced with a cat having severe lethargy following distemper (and/or) rabies vaccinations? It's been 50 hours since her shots and she has almost zero energy and is just eating a tiny bit. She is 11, but up until this, she has been as energetic as a kitten! She has not vomited. We called the (regular) vet and a back-up vet. Neither thought there was any crisis. But, of course... we worry!!! She is not herself at all ! Thanks for any input! Kathy

[attachment=5559:car_hood_031.jpg] My 9-year-old kitty, Dolly, was diagnosed last Tuesday with acute renal failure. I saw her throwing up some very odd-looking vomit, and staggering. Immediately got her to the vet. The initial exam showed her heart to be good, no fever, all good..... Then they did the bloodwork. Her creatinine levels were off-the-charts and confirmed the Stage 4 diagnosis !!!!!! She was put on IV fluids and I had to leave her overnight! Visited her the next morning and she didn't recognize me! The re-tests showed no improvement. Visited her in the afternoon - the same. ALMOST made the decision then to have her put to sleep, because I felt she was suffering. Then the vet came in and told me she had consulted with another vet and wanted to try one more thing, so she stayed over another night... No improvement. I made the decision the next day. What ... a ... nightmare. My baby! For the first 3 days I bawled, crying so hard that at times it was hard to breathe. Now I'm almost all numb. Just can't think or feel. I am going to write another post shortly about how the death of a pet affects the other pets in the household (I have 2 other precious cats). I am glad to be among all of you. Kathy

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been around to help others through their losses! This past winter I went into a depression that was so bad that I didn't know whether I'd come out of it (not out yet, but functioning again). I lost my mom on Dec. 16, and I lost my dog Farmey on Feb. 8. For some reason I couldn't even come here and share. Even to type a few words seemed like too much of an effort, but I know now that this is where I belonged, and if I had made it here, it could have made a big difference. I'll attach a picture of Farmey (whoops - just tried 2wice and I can't. I keep getting error messages). To give you just a little background, I adopted him 2 years ago when he was a "chained dog", outside 24 hours a day (in MAINE!!), almost 365 days a year. He was 13 then, and shortly after I adopted him, he became ill from tainted pet food ! He survived that and went on to have a fulfilling life. He brought joy to everyone whose life he touched. For the past year of his life, he used a wheelchair/walker on his walks, and he loved using it. He still ran just like a puppy! I miss both him and my mom dearly. I'm sorry about all of the losses you all are experiencing. I will spend more time here and catch up with you. Love to all, Kathy |
