With all of us on this site, suffering grief at the loss of our dear friends, I found it shocking to hear that one of my neighbors was planning to euthanize her lovely sheltie because she was moving and had new rugs in her fancy new condo. The sheltie is elderly and has accidents from time to time.. Imagine killing a living being rather than cleaning your rugs or even having no rugs for a period of time! How could someone betray a little soul who trusts and loves her like that? Anyway, although it would be very hard for me to take a new pet since I have a toddler and also babysit my mother's incontinent poodle, I thought I would have to take in the old sheltie rather than hear that she was killed. Fortunately, the neighbor's grand-mother, who also lives in my building decided to give the dog a home. This is good since the dog knows and likes the grand-mother. I am friendly with the grand-mother and know that she was ashamed of her grand-daughter's heartless att*itude.

With people like the grand-daughter in this world, no wonder so many pets end up in shelters or dead.

I heard some bad stories about people euthanizing their pets for stupid reasons.

One guy put down his dog because he moved in with his girlfriend and she didn't want a dog... they broke up 2 weeks later.

When I was a kid my friends parents put their dog to sleep because it had fleas. Hello! There is treatment for that! Geesh!

I was seeing this woman for a couple weeks when she tells me "If you want me to stick around you need to get rid of that cat!" Needless to say, that was the last time I ever seen her. I don't give up my buddy for anyone. That's the way it should be.

It's hard to believe how people can have a pet and not get attached to it.

That is tottally crazy, I recently had to put down my dog Binky because she was 105 years old and very sick. I waited to make this decision until I couldn't take to see he suffer anymore and I didn't want her to suffer anymore. Anyway, people putting down animals for any reason than the animal is sick or old should be ashamed of themselves. This goes with the thought that people think of thier animals as "property" not a memeber of the family like they should be and when pets are thought of as property I guess these pepople think they can do whatever they want with thier property. What a shame. sad.gif

If someone ever made me choose between my furbabies and them...I would euthanize the person. If only the world would realize there are a lot more "people" that need thown away than there is pets that exist!

hard to believe people would have this att*itude, but we've seen it too. I would give my right arm to have Misty having accidents on my rugs.

Someone in my Mom's group actually gave her dog away when her babay was born.....can you believe it????? Some people.

It's this kind of att*itude that is probably is the reason no one cared when Misty died. IT's amazing how people acted like I was calling them to say I had just gotten home from the store.......

and some people tick me off when they use allergies as an excuse to get rid of pets too. There is allergy shampoo, there are air filters folks. IF you really want to you can work around it.
