Blu
Hi,
I've never used a chat room or blog or any of the things you might call this but I'm looking for other people who might understand my recent (Mon. Aug. 8th ) loss. A lot of people think i'm crazy for being so affected by the lose of my cat blu so i'm hoping there's someone out there who understands. How do you deal with such a sudden loss? i'm open to any suggestions or comments.
thanks,
nate

okay, so i guess after reading some of the other entries i feel like i haven't said enough. blu was sick for reasons i didn't understand. he was my brother's cat and against his wishes i took him to the vet who determined that he had an URI. i was given antibiotices and food to force feed him. the feeding didn't go well no matter how much water i added to it. 2 days later there was bloody mucus coming out of blu's mouth so i took him back to the vet knowing that my brother wouldn't help me. while we were there i saw what looked like a maggot on the table. when the doc returned i asked him what it was. he thought it was a maggot too until he looked at it and it turned out to be a cuterebra grub! it wa so early in the season that no one thought about this! it was later determined that blu had another one lodged in his laryenx. that's right, internal! a very unusual thing. i force fed blu for a week and then they were eventually able to remove it. not an easy thing to do. after 2 more weeks of nursing and force feeding blu seemed to be well on his way to a healthy life as a happy and spoiled cat just like he was before this begain.
on monday, aug. 8th, blu begain to cough like he was having a fur ball but that wasn't it. blood was pouring from his mouth. i've never seen anything like it!!! i got him to the vet, around the corner, within 5 minutes but there was nothing they could do. he had lost so much blood that his gums were white and his pupils were blown. in fact his pupils were blown before i even picked him up from the kitchen floor.
he was lying in a pool of his own blood. it was so shocking and sudden because for a week he was back to his normal self;eating, sleeping, playing, begging for treats.
for some reason a major blood vessel ruptured. up until that point my vet (who has been fantastic) had no idea that these grubs had been observed to comitt adverse migration into the brain or lungs. that's anyones best guess. there was another grub that no one could detect and it cost blu his life.
it was and still is a very shocking end for a cat who seemed to be making a full recovery. my only hope is that through blu's story i can convince people not to let their cats go outside!!!!
it's only been 2 days but i know the best thing i can do to honor blu is to tell people what happened to him and to encourage people to keep thier 4 legged family members inside.
thanks for listening,
natalia morgan
