Suzy was a wonderful Jack Russel-Chihuahua mix. She was with us for over 15 years, and we think she was over 20 years old. In her youth, she was very energetic. The past few years brought several age-related problems, bad vision, deafness, arthritis, and nystigmus, which we thought was a stroke. A few years ago we thought she wouldn't survive much longer, but thanks to luck and good vet care, she soldiered on till today. My wife and I have known for some months now that we'd have to "make a decision," yet we'd hoped she'd go peacefully in the night. Her Jack Russel energy kept her going and going, and it was heartbreaking to see her stagger around the house on legs that barely worked. We agonized over what to do and postponed the inevitable, but today we decided it was enough. After losing our sweet cat Buddy last May and Gracie the dog in June rather quickly, having our baby so very long and having years to prepare didn't make the day much easier. If you love them, it's always hard. Suzy, rest in peace and thank you for so many good years!

John, my heart goes out to you. I remember when you lost Buddy last year. Losing three beloved fur kids in such a short time is heart-wrenching. I am glad though that you had so many years with Suzy. She sounds like a real sweetheart. Take good care of yourself!

Hi, John, please permit me to add my sincerest sympathies in the physical loss of your beloved Suzy. As you are all too familiar, losing a companion is never easy regardless of the circumstances or how long we are blessed with their sweet physical presence. Euthanasia is the last gift of love we can give to our companions at great sacrifice to ourselves so that they can be restored to their former youthfulness in the company of the angels.
John, although you already know, please let me gently remind you that you are not alone in your grief adjustment journey. Each of us are here for you for as long and as often as you need us. Each grief journey is unique because the relationship we have with each of our companions is individually unique. The good news in the midst of all the deep sorrow is that the love bond you and your beloved Suzy share is eternal - - her sweet Living Spirit is always and forever a part of your heart and your memories - - she is always and forever a heartbeat close to you. Thank you so much for sharing your beloved Suzy with us, John. She is a precious little girl, and I am so smiling about your observation of how her Jack Russell energy kept her going - - the J R energy is equivalent to the Energizer Bunny!!! Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, John, and please let us know how you're doing. Peace and blessings, moon_beam -------------------- In heaven's perfect garden there is no grief or pain, and all of God's creation join the angels' sweet refrain.
The most blessed way I have of knowing God's comforting love and grace is to look into the eyes and heart of God's creatures' sweet angelic face. |

DannysMom and Moon Beam, thanks again for your kind thoughts. Our home lives revolve around the furkids, and the more they need us, the more we're willing to do for their comfort, health and happiness. My wife has two daughters and through them we have 3 grandkids. That plus work and other endeavors keep us busy. But the animals, they eat with us, sleep with us, watch the news with us. We've gone through these good-byes many times though each seems like the first. Sounds like a worn out cliche but they're all so wonderfully unique in their personalities. Losing them is so tough.
Though we are dealing with Suzy's departure, we also frequently think of Buddy. We didn't realize what a gamble he was. We'd gotten him healthy and strong and getting along with the other cats when his health took a bad turn -- unexpected for such a young fellow. But looking back I don't think we'd do it any other way... just do the best you can. |

My condolences, John, on your loss of Suzy. As you said, it's never easy to lose a beloved pet; they are members of the family and become truly loved ones. Take solace in Suzy's long and happy life with you, that you did everything possible for her, and the prospect of meeting her again some day at the Rainbow Bridge.

I imagine how you must feel after all those years together, even when we have in our minds that the time of our beloved pets might came to an end any moment, it is never easy to say good bye. But I'm sure you must have many happy memories of Suzy in your 15 years together, remember her like that, and remember how happy she was to be a member of your family, a family that was with her until the end. That much you love her, to let her go with her dignity, surrounded by her loved ones, for me that is the last gift we can give to our loyal companions.
Please recive a hug and my condolences for your loss. |
