For the last two night I have the most awful yet happy dreams.

Last night I dreamt that I dug up Barney's coffin and he was alive sad.gif .

I was so happy, I took him back into the house and everything was normal again. It seemed like the dream went on for hours. I got up this morning and went downstarirs and my mum had left her coat on the sofa, for a SPLIT second I thought it was Barney.

Maybe the coffin dream is Barney's way of telling you that although he is not part of his fleshly body, his spirit is very much alive. Maybe he wanted to offer you that comfort.

I had a dream about Oswald about six weeks after he died. I dreamed that he ran out the back door (not that Oswald had "run" anywhere for a few years), and that I went out to get him back in the house. I remember telling myself in the dream "Don't wake up," "Don't wake up." I somehow knew that it was only a dream. When I did wake up - too soon - I got hit with a fresh wave of grief. But now, in retrospect, maybe Oswald was telling me that he was young and healthy again, enjoying his new spirit body, but still coming back for a visit into the garden that he enjoyed.

Wow.... You guys just helped me, too!

For years since my cat Smokey died, I've had a recurring dream that she (and later my other cat, Kela, too) were locked in a room in a HUGE 10-story dormitory or hotel. I'd search and search, and when I'd finally find them I would realize that they hadn't been given fresh food or water for a week. In another version, I'd just walk into a room and find them there and have the same realization. I always wake up feeling intensely guilty, despite the fact that I would NEVER have neglected them in real life.

But maybe those closed rooms had the same symbolism as coffin in Eellyy's dream?

Here's one: My sister has dreamed about her deceased cat a couple of times and each time her furbaby would be hissing at her and she's feeling really bad about it. Why would this be? My sister dearly loved her furkitty. I haven't any answers for her but perhaps someone here would have the answer.

I just woke up this morning after a dream about Dakota, and came on here and saw this post. This dream was so nice and bad at the same time. I didnt want to wake up either. I dreamed that I was in the kitchen and he was standing at the back sliding door wagging his tail and jumping around. I was so excited to see him!! I thought, Oh my gosh, hes back ! He looked like he did when he was about 3 or 4 years old. Hes skin tighter, no gray on his beard and he looked so beautiful. I was so excited seeing him at the back door and I opened the door and he ran in. He acted as if he was gone for so long and was so excited to be home.I yelled to my husband that Dakota was home. Me and my husband sat on the floor with him and hugged him and couldnt believe how beautiful he looked. I remember thinking I know this is just a dream, but I didnt want to wake up. I remember saying to him " Dakota, we love you but you know you have to go back,... you have to go back to God" Then I suddenly realised that he was peeing on my husband and was starting to get sick again.......thats when I woke up. The dream was so real and I felt joy when I saw him so healthy and running around and wagging his tail, so glad to be home. Im just feeling sick about it now. I want to go back to sleep and see him again. I thought he was trying to tell me in my dream that he was ok, until the whole peeing thing happend . Maybe it was his way of saying that he is ok, but he would have been terribly sick if he was here. I dont know, Im trying to make sense of it. I thought I was starting to feel better, but now Im just sitting here crying again. I guess it is just a process.

Thanks for reading !

I just want to throw in a happier dream, too, so we're not only talking about sad or disturbing ones.

About 2 weeks after my cat Smokey died, I began having extremely vivid, almost lucid dreams of being visited by her. These dreams had a distinct and different feeling to them than any of the regular dreams that happened during those nights.

Although they took place in different settings, each of these special dreams followed a pattern. I would see Smokey and exclaim, "Smokey! You died, but you've come back to see me!" I always had the very distinct sense that I was being visited, that this was more than simply having Smokey show up in a dream. And each time, she'd stay with me a while and I'd pet her, and then she'd leave again.

Smokey's death had shaken me to the core. I was already exhausted from dealing with my wife's cancer, and I almost fell apart completely after Smokey died. When I had those dreams, I felt certain that she'd come back to comfort and reassure me.

Daryl,

I felt that in my dream I was being visited by Dakota too. It was very different than other dreams that I had had as well. I hope and pray that he really was trying to tell me that he was ok and he was in his younger body jumping around and being happy.
I couldnt explain the dream, it had such a different feeling than any of my other ones too. Thanks for sharing your story !

I told my sister that I had posted here about the dreams but no one had responded. She's disappointed as she was expecting some answers just as I was. If anyone has answers or if it's not favorable Please post them anyway. If it's not favorable I won't be telling her as she's upset enough already and I don't want to add to it. I do feel this post is being ignored! sad.gif

Wanda,

I just saw your post. I don't think you or your sister are being ignored. It's hard to intrepret dreams if you do not know the cat or the relationship that your sister had with him. I personally believe that when we dream about a decease animal it is their way of saying I am Ok now and no longer sick. This might be your sister's cats way of saying this.

Sorry, but this is the best I can do.

Hi Wanda,
Sorry you thought your post was being ignored. I think if you write a new post/thread of your own about this you probably will get some more responses.

As for my thoughts about it, I think some of the dreams, especially like the one you describe aren't messages at all -- they are our own minds trying to sort our feelings out. In this case, it's just probably a reflection of your sister thinking her kitty might be mad at her. I'm sure he's not angry at all. I am sure he knew how much he was loved. Maybe though he's "fussing" at her trying to tell her she needs to stop feeling so bad and so sad. Her kitty, like all of our "babies," knows we did the best we could.

Dear Wanda,

I have been trying to decipher my dreams for some time now and am probably more confused now than at the beginning.

One thing I have learned is that what we think a dream means usually means the opposite.

Dying means a new beginning

You don’t tell us how your sisters cat died, is your sister feeling guilty (which we all feel during grieving), she may be feeling that she needs to be punished and therefore in her dream is getting her cat to do it for her.

Does she feel unprotected now that her cat has gone, I was afraid of the dark before I got my dogs and worried that the fear would return when they had gone.

Give your sister a cuddle and encourage her talk about her feelings, just let her talk without saying things like but that’s silly or oh you shouldn’t think/fell like that, let her cry as much as possible telling her that every tear drop is healing her.

The best that you can do for her is to just listen.

Failing that there are web pages for dreams maybe you could look up one of them and see if they decipher dreams for you.

Good luck
Love Sue

Thanks, everyone for your replies! Her furkitty was at the vet overnight for next morning testing and her furkitty passed then. She had thought about going there when she got off work but then didn't because the vet had said she'd be alright. She must be feeling a lot of guilt that she didn't go to the vet's like she was thinking to do. Now that it's been mentioned I think sis may be feeling guilt and now that I think about it she may be feeling Kitty (that's her kitty's name) is mad at her for not being there with her. (Kitty first was diagnosed with sinus but Kitty wasn't responding to the meds and so Sis took her to a Animal Hospital and was diagnosed as having severe asthma. The other vet misdiagnosed Kitty) Sis isn't one to really talk about anything and holds things in but I will, in a sutle way, get her to talking about it cause she really needs to. I'm sure I can help her! Then also her daughter brings her a kitten that Sis didn't really want just yet and it wasn't to long after Kitty passed. I am a little upset with my niece for doing that cause she didn't let her Mom have a lot of grieving time over Kitty nor to think about it if she wanted another one. I realize there are petowners that go and get new pets after one has passed but there are those that just can't do that right away and I and my Sis are two of them that can't do that. My niece wasn't thinking but she may have felt she'd make her Mom feel better with doing that.

Today is 4-mo that my furkitty ( Fuzzball ) has been gone.

Children heal so quickly, they don’t dwell on the bad things, they pick their selves up, dust themselves of and go charging into the next lesson to be learned and start all over again.
