I recently brought my cat Loki to the vet for his round of booster shots and as ususal... tis the season for fleas! I normally try to use the FrontLine whenever I can but I have limited funds as of late so I grabbed a packet of the Hartz flea drops. I had mentioned the fleas to the vet and he told me that alot of flea treatments out there, Hartz in particular has a tendency to cause severe neurological disorders and possible death or other side effects. Usually the symptoms happen within the first few days of the treatment. Has anyone heard of this? Im assuming that flea products like Frontline and other more expensive flea products dont have this side effect. I trust my vet, but I would think that if its a valid danger against the animal, that it wouldn't be a viable product for resale. Just curious if anyone has heard anything similar.

Thanks In Advance,
Cynthia

I have heard of Hartz brand flea drops causing many problems to dogs and cats. There was a news article a couple months ago. Someone was sueing Hartz for killing their cat. I guess it caused their cat to have seizures, and it died. If I were you i would stay away from Hartz. I do. I also have limited funds right now (am getting married in a little less than a month) and I used to buy Hartz brand stuff... Not anymore, I don't trust it anymore.

Yeah, I have been doing my own research on the topic and apparently there is a class action lawsuit that is against Hartz. Needless to say I have been warning anyone that I know with cats to stay away from the product. Neither of my boys have ever had a reaction to the drops but that is a chance that I am unwilling to take on my last surviving kitty. I will try to post some links when I get some more info.

Good luck with the wedding. I am celebrating my 1st anniversary this Sunday. Just remember to breathe and relax.... its just another day. It will be over before you know it. Kinda sad when you think of it... although I was happy when mine ended. I nearly killed my photographer. I just thank God I had an open bar!!

Take Care,
Cynthia

Avoid at all costs. Years ago, one of my cats reacted as if I'd poured acid on her neck when I substituted the Hartz flea meds. It's not the same stuff as Advantage or Frontline, which she tolerated fine. I know the over the counter stuff is cheaper, but it's not worth risking your cat's health.
