I have had the oddest things happen this past weekend. On Friday night, my 18 year old silver persian girl Nymph almost passed. She started breathing really heavily and then panting and making strange groaning noises. I gave her rescue remedy and arseni%% album while I wondered since it was after hours if I should start looking for an emergency vet. I had hoped she would pass naturally (she is hyperthyroid and has kidney failure as well as a heart murmer) but I don't want her to suffer. She started to calm down, her breathing went back to normal and she lay down and went to sleep. I thought she would die that night but she was wide awake and hungry the next morning. Things started to get strange, she has always been an indoor cat, and unlike my other cats in the past had no desire to go outside, in fact on the few occasions I put her on a leash she was terrified and wanted nothing more than to go in again. Yesterday she clawed the screen door after I had gone outside and insisted on coming out. I put the leash on her and she in a very calm relaxed manner explored the back yard. Then she lay beside me, then in my lap and then bolted from my lap and ....chased a butterfly! I couldn't believe it...it was beautiful to see, a lovely memory. Later when we went back in, I cooked salmon and Nymph has never ever wanted salmon or any other human foods. I sat on the floor as I was reading a newspaper I had spread out across the floor and she came and ate part of my salmon. It was as if partly she was still my Nymph and another part of her was almost as if she were another cat. It was so strange.
Has anyone else ever experienced this prior to a pet passing?
It was almost like a second kittenhood. I know it likely won't be much longer as she is paper thin but it is so sweet seeing her with these little spurts of unpredictable fun.
