On March 11, 2014, I lost my beloved tuxedo cat, Mission. He was truly the love of my love...my little animal soulmate. I've posted his story in this forum for anyone to read and comment on.
However, one thing I did not get into was the afterlife events. I am wondering if anyone here has had some "experiences" after they have lost a beloved pet? We all wonder and worry about our loved ones, once they depart us and their mortal body. Where they are? Are they OK? One thing I did right before the vet came to send my Mission on, was I asked him several time to let me know if he had made it to the Bridge and had crossed over safely. I pleaded with him to please let me know somehow, in some way. Since then, things have been sad and silent since I lost him, that is...up until yesterday, when I'm thinking...hoping? that maybe - just maybe... Mission sent a sign? Yesterday morning I went into my bedroom, where Mission lived, to get a few thing and then left and closed the door behind me. I did not realize that my big black cat, Miner must have sneaked into the room behind me. I had NO idea he did, as I wasn't there long with the door open. Miner had been a pretty good buddy of Mission's for a while many years back...until I started bringing other cats into the house and Mission decided he didn't want to be with the "crowd". Miner took over as the "leader" of the pack. Mission preferred to be alone in the bedroom. Continuing...the story, I left the house and was gone for a few hours. Upon my return when I opened the door, out dashed Miner in a panic like he'd literally "seen a ghost"!! Now nothing ususally phases this cat. He is a big bossy, but laid back kind of guy. I looked around the room and saw that the area where I had set up a memorial to Mission was somewhat disturbed. Cards and photo albums wher knocked over or in disarray and the Cat Fancy calendar that Mission had appeared in, was on the floor. But, other items were just where they had been and were left undisturbed including Mission's ashes and the mini cypress tree garden. So...I thought...hmmmm..was this some kind of sign maybe from Mission? Could he and Miner have "gotten into it" when Miner entered his turf? I could see Mission telling him, now wait a minute, buddy, this is MY room so you need to LEAVE. Maybe there was a scuffle between them?? The next occurrance was this morning. I had finished vacuuming the room and did the rest of the house. After I was done, I returned to the room and noticed that the carpet was pulled up at the edge of the door and there were a few carpet shreds there, as well. I had JUST vacuumed and this spot was clean and there would have been no carpet shreds and I would have noticed if the carpet was pulled up some at the door and would have pushed it back. Mission used to claw at the carpet in the spot and also claw at the door in that same area. Again..could this have been another SIGN? Next strange thing. I have corresponded fairly frequently with two other people on this forum...we have all connected. One lost her cat the very same day I did, and another lost her cat a little before we did. But, each of had a black and white tuxedo, an orange and white tabby and a gray and white tabby. When I went looking for kitty figurines to go in my little memorial cypress garden, I found a black and white tuxedo cat. But, it was in a packet of 3 kitties you had to purchase together. The black and white, and orange and white tabby, and a gray and white tabby.... Hmmmm....Jaspersmom and Snapdragon, I hope you see this column! Anyway, some food for thought, for inspiration... and for wondering. I'd love to hear if anyone else has had "visitations" by their beloveds. Peace and blessings to all of you and your beloved fur babies.... Mission's Mom |

Mission's Mom OnAMission, Thank you so much for bringing up this very interesting topic that I am sure so many of us can relate to, I know that I sure can. Wow that is really something that Miner ran out of the room and was totally spooked, and that Mission's memorial was disturbed, that the cards and photo albums were in disarray, and that even your Cat Fancy calendar was on the floor. I have no doubt that your Mission was not happy at Miner being in his room and around your mementos of him, and he must have let him know in no uncertain terms that this was his territory. Now isn't that also interesting that you noticed the carpet pulled up where Mission used to like to claw at, right after you had vacuumed in that very spot. I think that it is just amazing how when you went to purchase the little kitty figurine for your memorial cypress garden, that there were three in the packet, a tuxedo kitty like your Mission, an orange and white tabby like Snapdragon's Molly Rose, and a gray and white tabby like my Jasper, and how we three have seemed to have connected on this forum and corresponded with so many of the same experiences happening to our little ones, so not a coincidence I believe, more like a twist of fate, uncanny things like this that are so out of the ordinary never cease to amaze me. That first week after losing Jasper, I would feel his presence all around me, it was so palpable, and although I could not reach out and touch him, I knew without a doubt, that he was there. I used to see shadows and glimpses of him here and there, in all of his favorite places, the mind playing tricks on someone in their darkest hours and in the deepest throes of their grief, no I honestly don't think so. I do believe that our dear pets can and do break through that curtain, they can feel our pain and anguish, and they just want to be near us, and so as unbelievable as it may seem, no physical separation could keep them away from us. I do believe that love is one of the strongest forces in this universe of ours, and our precious little ones were so deeply cared about and so deeply loved, that no mere stopping of a little heartbeat could make that disappear. I remember one evening I was sitting at my computer,my Jingles came and sat down by me and looked right into my eyes, and he started meowing like crazy, never have I seen him do that before. Well I said to him, what is going on, show me what is wrong, and then I got up and I followed him and he led me straight to Jasper's favorite spot, right behind the chair where he would always sleep during the day, while he waited for me to come home from work. Well Jingles kind of just sank right down there on the carpet, as though he knew his best buddy was there, and he seemed to be more at peace than I had seen him since that night when he lost his friend, and he fell sound asleep, with his brother's little paw right around him, I am sure. I do believe that our pets do have that keen intuition and extra perception, and they can see, feel, and sense things that we very often cannot. I have no doubt in my mind that Mission came back and that Jasper came back, and that they can come back to this world, to be with us, to help us through our pain and sadness, to let us know they are okay, to let us know that they are never far away. Some folks may be somewhat skeptical about this, and that is fine as everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but for me, there is no way that happenings like this are purely coincidental or wishful thinking. I know Jasper is busy right now playing with Mission and Molly Rose, and all the other wonderful pets they have met at the bridge, but I am still waiting and hoping for a dream, as I would so love to hold him and touch him one more time, but I will wait, and if and when he is ready, I will welcome him with open arms. I always try to remain open to the signs, subtle things that we may not notice, as it may just be a very special message from our little ones, a leaf blowing in the wind, a white feather drifting down upon us, a beautiful rainbow after a storm, a bright and shining star in the night sky, I will always try to stay open and ready for my sweet boy coming back for another visit, and I am sure you must feel the same way about Mission. It was so good reading about this subject, so many of us who have lost a pet have had strange happenings that just could not be explained in any scientific or logical terms, I have read about these occurrences over and over again. I do think that they come back to us when they know it is the right time, they know when we need them the most, and they know when we are getting stronger too, and they may just need to be near us too, they must miss us as much as we miss them. They may be in a different realm right now, but they are still as connected to us as they were when they were here on this earth, this I truly believe. I bet our kitties are happy and just beaming with pride at the bridge right now, bragging about us and how much they were loved, telling each other all about the wonderful times they had here with us, and how they can't wait until we come home to them, and who knows, maybe they are even planning their next visit to see us. Thanks again OnAMission for the great post which really opens up the discussion on this wonderful subject, which is really also quite comforting I must say, just to know and believe they can still be here with us, and I believe it with all of my heart. Peace, blessings, and hugs, Jaspers Mom |
