Several days ago, my Gidget vomitted during the middle of the night. The next morning she seemed alright after breakfast. She went to work with my hubby like usual, but seemed less lively than usual. On the way home from work she began to get sick from both ends. Later in the evening she refused any food or water, so the next morning we took her to see the vet. She's been on IV fluids, antibotics, and pain meds. The doc says she has pancreatitus that seems to have been triggered by an unknown parasite. This has also caused a heart murmur she didn't have before. Gidget has no control at all over her bowels and as fast as the water runs through her it comes out her other end, mixed with blood. Her condition is weak tonight, but stable. In the morning, my hubby and I are going to see her with the hopes of trying to coax her into eating something so a stool sample can be taken. We've done all we can and the doc has too. The rest is left in God's hands.
My Gidgie girl is the most precious little sweetheart. Her sweeter side never came out until after Goliath passed away, when she mourned for him right along with me for months. When we brought Browser home this last spring, the very best side of Gidget came out that surprised us all. She adopted him as her own and they haven't been separated since the day they met. Browser is looking all over for her and I'm sure she's wondering where we are right now. I called the hospital just before I came on tonight for an update and her condition hasn't changed. I asked if they'd put extra blankies with her because she loves to burrow under the covers. The powerlessness I am feeling right now is almost unbearable because there is nothing more I can do to help her, except pray for her recovery. Dear friends, please leave your thoughts and prayers for my Gidgie Girl. The last time I posted a topic about her was this last May when she had a tumor in her face. I believe in the power of prayer and know many of you prayed for her then and I am asking you again to do the same. Not for me........but for her. I need to see her run down the stairs again on her two front feet with her back legs hiked up high and make me laugh. I need to see her rough housing with baby brother Browser. I need to see her well and happy again. When I crawl into bed tonight, I know I will miss her grrrrrrrrrr when she is disturbed under the covers. I want that lump under the covers right back where it belongs. Thank you all for listening. I feel better having typed this out before I lay down to sleep for the night. ![]()

Oh, that's SO good to hear - all of it! I feel like even I can breathe a little better now!
You might also want to take some chicken (not beef!) baby food along, just in case she doesn't go for the Innova. Plus, chicken baby food tends to constipate, if anything.....and many animals really like it, too. It's a great standby for failing appeti*tes. So is homemade (unseasoned) chicken soup, actually, which would also help her re-hydration, and you could even add a bit of Vit. C powder, Vit. Bs and some Vit. E oil (dosages based on weight) to it to help with the stress and her recovery. (SISU is a good brand of Vit.C in the proper form) Nissa had a small heart murmur, too, that worsened only a little after her blood pressure went through the roof that one time. Heart murmurs are often not anywhere near as alarming as many vets will claim, from what I learned, unless they're of a certain high value/#, so try not to fret TOO much about that, at least not for now. We simply put Nissa on heart glandulars (that at present we can't even get in Canada anymore, thanks to our stupid government!), more as a precaution, and those held her up just fine in that department. (they're very tasty, too, to animals) You might even try one of those "green smoothie" recipes for doggies that I'd just posted about here the other day, for added nutritional support as Gidget is trying to recover. I'd recommend the Fido's Dream one, as apple pectin (found in the apples) is very good for diarrhea, whereas bananas (in the other one) could be gas-producing, which she sure doesn't need right now. I also have a wonderful and very easy recipe that uses Slippery Elm Bark powder that is excellent for either diarrhea or constipation and is extremely soothing to all mucous membranes in the body & can sometimes be mixed right into food...but for that one, it can't be given w/i about 1-2 hrs. of drugs or other some other supplements (mucks with absorption rates). There are also some very good supportive homemade diets around for pancreati*tis, too, btw. Smaller meals throughout the day are recommended for this condition, so if she's not eating too much all at once, that's actually not a bad thing for her now. I've asked Nissa and Sabin to help Gidget out if they can....and THEN they can go back to their whoop-up with Goliath! ![]() Keeping my fingers crossed for you all! Your suggestions are always welcome and very much appreciated. Most definately I will take you up on the diet recipes. Anything that may help Gidget is something I am open to. Gidget did eat for us yesterday when we went to visit with her. She's always been a nibbler and never a gobbler, so we were happy to see her eat. We hand fed her and she ate about two tablespoon of her favorite can food. Then around 4:00 in the afternoon, we went back and she ate for us again. Last night around 7:00 she ate even more. I am so relieved she is eating again and the best part is that she kept it ALL down! Your idea of the baby food is a great one and we plan to stop at the store on the way to the clinic this mornig and get some. The doc will call us this morning before we head over to visit. She's been very good to Gidget and to us. The entire staff is very personable and caring. I'm so glad we found this clinic last year. We talked about all kinds of things including diet and vaccines. It was refreshing to hear her share her beliefs about both. She agrees that most vets over vaccinate animals which does cause disease and sickness. I admire her open mindedness about these subjects as she doesn't hold onto old school ideas. I think the vibes you sent out helped alot. Sabin and Nissa can return to their "whoop-up" with Goliath now! Your kids are special angels, that's for sure and you are an angel on earth! Thanks for all your ongoing support and love. You've made this whole ordeal much easier for me to handle. Please do send any other recipes you may come across. That Fido's Dream sounds delicious and nutricious. I think Gidget will love it too because apples are one of her favorite snacks. Huggers, Beth -------------------- Topics that include Goliath are:
