It will be one month this Wednesday that Arlo left us, and I had the worst meltdown last night. I went to bed, and as I lay there I realized how much I missed having him laying on me while I slept (my "protector") and I started crying uncontrollably for almost an hour. Needless to say I had various nightmares all night lone (at least Arlo wasn't in them). Even now as I (try) to type, my eyes are tearing up. I try to tell myself that Arlo realized we have so much love to give to the down-and-out, and he wanted another animal to be able to share in it. I am not ready for another furkid.

I can totally relate with your pain-I've been there several times, and I know it sounds like a cliche but time is a terrific healer. It's exactly the same as losing a human friend, but grief is grief. And we can only do what we can do. It's going to hurt, there's no way around that but even tho you can't see Arlo he's there with you, and he loves you and is very grateful to you for the wonderful home you gave him.
Try to go easy on yourself, you did nothing wrong. And there's no law stating you have to get a new furkid, and you'll do it when and if you feel like. And if you don't then you don't. Whatever you do, it's your choice. Arlo would only want you to be happy. Grief is a strange thing and it manifests itself in many ways. Just be gentle with yourself, we're all here for you. |
