When will it end? The hole she has left in our household is HUGE!
Friday, July 30th, was the day our beautiful springer, Yogurt, wouldn't get up off the grass out the back deck in our yard. I was hurrying to get her to her grooming appointment, woke up--she wasn't in bed with me--got dressed, asked family where she was, hubby said, out in the grass. I walked out on the back deck and she turned her head and wiggled her tail (whole butt wiggles!), gave me a long look, and I knew that she knew! After a rush to the vet, tests, exploratory surgery for a tumor found attached to her spleen, found cancer up through her liver, we didn't revive her. The vet said he could sew her up and wake her up for us to say goodbye, but that wasn't doing her any favors - just us! We had hugged and kissed her before taking her into the vet's office, and I didn't want her getting upset and excited just to say a tearful goodbye for our benefit. By 5:30 p.m., she was gone.

The last 6 months, I knew the time was coming - she was on DES for incontinence and thyroid. We made sure we catered to her every need, re-arranged our walking schedule - she couldn't walk as far as we wanted to-so we did another separate one without her. But the last night, she and I had our little walk - she led the way and made sure she kept ahead of me.
I told her I loved her for the past 13 years - and she had a good run. Every day I told her over and over she was a good girl (even when she got in the trash!!)
