It is hard to believe that Zoe was killed one year ago today. So much has happened in the past year but on some level I feel like we just lost her. I don't cry as much or as often but I do think of her every day. I think I will always miss her. She was just so sweet. Such a good companion and taken so suddenly at such a young age.
I think Zack still misses her on some level because he still wants to cuddle up with her blanket at night. I mentioned to my husband this morning that it is the one year anniversary but he has been having health problems and did not mention her again today. Of course, I know it is hard for him since he was walking her when she got off of her leash and was hit by the car. He keeps busy with Zack and Kasper but there will always be a place in our family with a big hole where Zoe should be. This is still the hardest death of a furchild I have ever experienced. Probably because all of the others lived very long lives and died of illness. Hers is the only sudden death I have had to deal with. I do talk to her every day so she knows we still miss her but I hope she is in a wonderful place playing and happy. Someday I hope I will be with her again. |

Hi, Joanne, thank you so much for sharing your and your beloved Zoe's angel-versary with us. I do so understand how traumatic the physical loss of your beloved Zoe has been for you, your husband, and your precious Zack. Even though the calendar says a year has passed does not diminish the eternal love that is in your heart for your beloved Zoe. She is forever a part of you, Joanne, - - she is forever a heartbeat close to you.
I hope life is treating you, your husband, Zack, and Kasper kindly, my friend. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to sharing your news and your treasured memories of your beloved Zoe. Peace and blessings, moon_beam -------------------- In heaven's perfect garden there is no grief or pain, and all of God's creation join the angels' sweet refrain.
The most blessed way I have of knowing God's comforting love and grace is to look into the eyes and heart of God's creatures' sweet angelic face. |

Hi Moon_beam
Thanks for your response. Zack got loose on Wed evening and ran down the road. He was wearing his harness but got loose. My husband was walking the 2 dogs. It was dark and raining. He did come back to me when I called him but for now my husband and the dogs are restricted to the back yard. I just can't loose another dog the way we lost Zoe. My husband's arthritis has gotten bad and he is having trouble walking so this is the best thing for all concerned for the time being. Hope you are well. |

Hi, Joanne, thank you so very much for sharing with us how things are going. Oh my goodness, Joanne - - I can just imagine your heart stopping until you got Zack back safe and sound. I TOTALLY agree with you that the back yard is the best option for now. After all these many years I still remember when my Samson got loose from his tether and I called and called and called for him. Finally he came to me, head lowered in shame, I picked him up in my arms - - all 25 pounds of him - - carried him inside and sank into the chair closest to the door, buried my face in his fur and cried - - sobbed - - thanking God that he was back home safe and sound. Finally after the tears stopped and Samson got down on the floor my mom asked me if I was okay - - that my face was white as a sheet - - she thought I was going to have a stroke or heart attack. We didn't have money at the time for a fence, so when Samson was outside to get some fresh air in his lungs we tethered him on a long tether so that he could explore his yard and either my mom or I would frequently check on him to make sure he was okay. His tether had frayed, and I hadn't noticed it when I hooked him up - - that's how he got loose. I was working on bills and I got this "feeling" that something was wrong. Mom was sitting in the living room where she could see him - - or she thought she could keep an eye on him. But his tether had frayed and he took advantage of it to go exploring. Eventually we were able to afford a fence.
I'm so very, very glad your precious Zack is safe in your and your husband's loving care. I hope today is being kind to you, your husband, Zack, and Kasper. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, Joanne, and that I look forward to knowing how things are going for you.
