One of my absolute favorites...I don't know the author, I think no one does, actually...

Everyone suddenly burst out singing;
And I was filled with such delight
As prisoned birds must find in freedom,
Winging wildly across the white
Orchards and dark-green fields; on -- on -- and out of sight.

Everyone's voice was suddenly lifted;
And beauty came like the setting sun:
My heart was shaken with tears; and horror

Dearest Margi,

I do believe that I now have a new favorite poem. Hon, I am crying so hard and ... It's very difficult to type but I just gotta spill my guts a bit. And, believe me, it's truly difficult for me to express my grief, horror, devastation and more at the loss of my most Immortal Beloved Feather Child Alex. That occurred from 10/11/2007 to 10/16/2007. I just never want to share much of anything because, as I've said many times here, I simply can not, not, not bear to be pitied. So, like many others, I cry daily and don't often express the terrible void, guilt, devastation and more ...

Like you, my world was shattered! I cried and cried when I read about your Angel Fur Child Poppers, about yourself and also your loyal, loving, dear, sweet, precious fur kid companion. I just couldn't type/say anything to you because, as the song goes: "The tears get in my way." I was speechless and I'm rarely that. Ask anyone here. I've lost so many beloved friends, family members, fur and feather kids since I was a tiny toddler. Word. However, no loss has ever, ever, ever affected me as when Alex ... Didn't come home.

The poem you posted, Margi. Oh My Gosh! That's Alex and so much more is Alex. He was extraordinary regarding his cognizance, recognition, memory, intelligent, genuine compassion, his personality, emotions, speech, other vocalizations, and so much more ... And so much more ... According to objective experts in their fields of expertise, Alex had all the qualities I just mentioned "the same as a 3 to 4 year old 'normal' human child." Margi, he blew people away being able to hold simple conversations knowing what all meant within his enormous vocabulary.

I shall never, ever, ever get over his loss and the manner in which it happened. Then, I read your poem. I'm only just now able to type and can still barely see my PC monitor. Thank you!!! Thank you so very, very much for bringing a whole lot of Alex back to me by posting this awesome poem ... And, in that happy, comforting and lovely way instead of those hurtful reminders. I just cannot thank you enough! I hope you don't mind if I post one of Alex's photos to go along with this poem. No, he's not outside singing and and in flight, but he sure as heck looks mighty dang dapper in his finest Special Agent James Bond 007 tuxedo. Please always remember: "Shaken, not stirred." *Grin.*

I'm sorry I didn't respond to you before this--I tried to, but my PC went wonkie on me. I'm really glad that this poem opened you up to sharing more with us--about Alex, the Wonder Bird! I'll never be able to think of him any way except in his tuxedo. (Did he love it or hate it--or not care?)

Margi, Alex the Wonder Bird flies free! He flies ... Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's Alex the Wonder Bird!

He was young in that photo so one could do practically anything with him and he didn't care. I don't believe he would have liked it too much if I'd suited him up as he got older and a bit more set in his ways. Then again, I don't know. Sure would love to find out someday and I know I shall.
