I looked up who/what organizations might be best to donate to for Hurricane Ike's devastation for animals and found Code 3 Associates.....who are already on the scene of course, with both highly trained and volunteer individuals, working fast to save as many animals as possible. Apparently, they have a high standing in the ranks of organizations that really WORK to save animals affected by disasters. So I'm donating to them, over some others.
