My little Dinah is about 12 years old and shes starting to feel a little bonier than usual. She eats and drinks normally and uses the litter box as usual.

could it just be her older age? Am I worrying over nothing?

Shes my baby and she follows me all over the house. We've raised her since she was a little kitten! I can't live without my baby <3 I just want to make sure shes healthy going into her older age...even though shes still a baby to me!

also- she never ever goes outside! Shes too scared...so I know its not a parasite or anything...

I think Im just being paranoid...

Dinah is beautiful! When was her last vet checkup? If she hasn't had one recently, you should take her in for a "senior" blood panel to check for hyperthyroidism and other problems that older cats can get. They don't usually lose weight unless something is wrong, especially if she is still eating normally but losing weight anyways.

I agree. They say that once they're about 10, they're considered seniors and checks ought to be done every year at least. Scary as that may be, it's always better to know and have the advantage of catching something sooner, rather than later or not at all, IF there's anything wrong. Weight loss in cats is always treated seriously unless there's some other, obvious reason one can point to.

What a pic! biggrin.gif

Great advice! The hyperthyroidism is the first thing that I had come to mind when I was reading it, too! It is unfortunate that so many people put off these things as just 'old age'...I'm glad you are concerned...the sooner you find outthe cause, the better wink.gif ! I'm hoping for the best! Let us know what the vet says!

Oh yeah...that is one cute picture! How on earth did you happen to have the camera at such a candid moment laugh.gif ??

Like everyone else said, I'd get Dinah checked just for your peace of mind.

What a beautiful cat! OMG this is a great picture. Just too cute.

Thanks guys! I'll take her in asap.

I guess my baby is just a good model like her mama!

Im thinking of taking her to Paris with me ( I got asked to model there) but Im scared of the animal quarantine...
AlleysMama
I'm so glad you are going to have her checked out! There are many things that might cause her to lose weight and nearly all of them can be treated or cured if you get her in soon enough. You seem very close to her (a trip to Paris!) so please don't take any chances with her health.

Please let us know what you find out. I will be thinking positive thoughts for her!

Im going to do all I can, unfortunately, my mother says we don't have the money to take her to the vet so (even though im in debt from school) Im going to save up to take her in.

shes my whole entire life!

Hi,

Is there a chance you could put the vet bill on a credit card? I have a card to use for things like that---things I can't plan to afford but at least it's a way to pay for what I may need at the time.

Good luck!

Love,
Kathy

unfortunately, I cant, but My mom knows a vet who will take a look at her!

Shes doing very well though, shes gained back to a normal weight, and shes bright eyed and bushy tailed! She has a little rash from an alergy all the cats have (the vet said theyll all be fine we just give them some meds everytime they break out)
Im just sad because Im moving away to dorms for school in Florida,and I cant take my baby with me! Im also trying to recover from an eating disorder, so Whenever I leave for treatment, I wont get to have my kitty ;_;

at least I know shell be there when I come home! =)
