It's been four weeks today since you passed and I still miss you more than words could ever convey. I remember the night we got you, I had just started high school and I could hear you crying from your crate in the middle of the night, so I snuck out of bed and spent the night with you. You could fit into the palm of my hand and you just wanted somebody to stay with you. I got in trouble from mum the next morning but it was worth it. You did so well at puppy pre-school and learnt all their commands easily, such a clever boy. You'd always bring the newspaper in for us when it was delivered and if your water bowl ever got empty you'd carry it over to us so we could fill it up. I remember you shaking and trying to hide whenever the mobile dog wash lady arrived, but then being so proud and prancing around the house to show off that you'd had a bath afterwards. I remember not walking you as much as I should have when you were younger, and I'm so sorry for it. I tried to make up for it the last few years, especially the last year where I began taking you to different parks almost every day. Those days of sitting by you watching the world go by were one of the happiest of my life. I remember you trusting that we knew what was best for you, and being on your best behavior at the vets though it scared you so much being there. I remember the way you could cheer me up better than anybody else could when I was having a rough day. I remember you barking at me when you wanted to play, and doing little half jumps with your squeekie toys. You wanted me to try to get the toys off you but you didn't want to give them to me. You would get so excited every time I bought you a new toy that I kept buying you them just to see that reaction, even though you had a whole crate full. I remember you always looking back to make sure I was still following whilst we were out walking together. I remember every time we walked past your sister's house you'd refuse to walk further unless I let you go in and say hello to her from the gate. I remember the days you put on a brave face though I could tell you were feeling bad. I remember you coming out of the first seizure you had, and giving me a lick to reassure me because I was panicking. I remember the last visit to a park we made, where you were happy and had more energy than usual. I was so thankful for that.

I remember you, my beautiful boy, and the amazing 13 years that you gave me. I love you and hope you're running free and happy.

Oh Rocky's mom

What an exquisitely beautiful and wonderful dog! His eyes shine happiness and tell of the love he has from his mom. Thirteen beutiful years together is a long time. Feel assured - although you can't see or hear or smell or touch beautiful Rocky, he IS alive. He has just passed into a different form - the spiritual form. At night, when a breath of air touches your cheek, it's Rocky come to say hello. During the day, when you feel the presence of someone else in the car, that Rocky coming to say hello. He's right where he ever was and he is on his job: protecting his mom from everything harmful and bringing her everything happy. You can write letters to him here just to let him how much he is LOVED and how truly a GOOD dog he is. You can ask him for help. You can lean on his strongest characteristics, like kindness or strength, or joy of life. and the best news of all is that you WILL (not MIGHT, not HOPE, but WILL) be reunited someday when you join him in the Perfect World, never to be parted again.

I'm sorry about your physical loss of Rocky and the gallons of tears that will fall for him. But remember, he LIVES, and he's just as much a part of your family as he ever was.

Rocky, your mom is sad and misses you. Could you send her some love ray, please? Thanks you beautiful creature.

Awww, what a handsome boy. As you know my Eva was a German Shepherd too -- these dogs are such blessings; so smart, so empathetic, so wise.

Your Rocky had a great, long life with you. I don't think there is any need at all to worry about him being short on walks early on in life; dogs live in the moment, they don't hold grudges. Rocky loved you and was so lucky to have you - you clearly kept him happy and fulfilled and healthy.

Thank you for sharing his pictures and part of his story with us smile.gif

Thank you Gretta's mum, I will need to remember that. I think my rocky boy listened to you as he appeared to me in a dream last night, the first one in weeks. He appeared out of nowhere and ran towards me happy and healthy, he had a feather on his head and back, it was amazing to see him even just through a dream.

Eva's mum, thank you you're right about the grudges- if only humans could have as much love inside them as dogs do the world would be a much better place. I hope you are fairing ok with Eva's loss, perhaps rocky and her have met and become buddies wherever they are smile.gif

Ohh -- feathers are symbolic in dreams! I know white feathers found in real life after a death are typically considered a message from the deceased, but I just hopped on google and found that white feathers in a dream symbolize "travel" or "the ability to move more freely" or "innocence" or a "spiritual fresh start!" That sounds like a lovely message from Rocky! I found those meanings on whats-your-sign.com, who knows how reliable a source it is, but still.....!!

If I could only be half the woman Eva thought I was, despite all the mistakes I made with her, and my impatience & frustration (that I kick myself for every single day) with her aggression as it first surfaced... :'(

I do wonder whether our dogs have met smile.gif Eva always did better with male dogs than female; she was used as a breeding dam multiple times and, well, she had a flirty side until we had her spayed rolleyes.gif wub.gif I bet they are romping around up there - looks like Rocky loved to play, and Eva loved (LOVED) a game of fetch!

Wow, that would really be something. I did think the feathers were a strange aspect but I didn't think to look up their meaning =) thank you so much for sharing that with me, would be amazing if it was a bit. of a message from my boy.

There's no use kicking yourself over the could haves, would haves, should haves. Like you said to me, dogs don't hold grudges and I'm sure Eva was so grateful that there was somebody who took her in and loved her regardless of the aggression. It's a sad fact that most dogs like Eva get overlooked and put down. She was a very lucky girl to have been shown that much love instead. Definitely can picture them buddying up happy.gif rocky got along with everybody and loved his fetch (though would refuse to give the ball back...though I imagine there are countless balls where they are hehe)

Ha! Aww - there better be lots of balls up there then, because Eva, as much ball drive as she had, would run off and lay in the tall (read: tick-infested) grass and chew the heck out of the ball for a couple of minutes once every 10 minutes or so of fetch.

I actually saw this amazing thing on pinterest, when I was looking for memorial ideas, of a deceased dog's owner who printed up a flyer about the dog and its death, and attached it to this bucket that was filled with brand new tennis balls and left on the beach for other dogs to enjoy, in memory of the dog that passed. I don't have any dog-friendly beaches or even parks, really, near me, or I'd do it, but seeing that Rocky loved to play fetch too, I thought it might be an interesting idea for you! smile.gif

I hope Memorial Day weekend wasn't too bad for you - seems like the long weekends are the hardest for me. Being busy seems to help.

Oh, ILoveEva

I am SO happy that beautiful Eva showed herself to you in such a clear dream with such a clear symbol, the white feather, that she is OK, living, near you in spirit form, watching over you as always. I found many feathers after my mom's passing 2003 but never a white one. One time, in the middle of a huge metropolis, I found a full tail feather of a pheasant. Animals have minds and hearts, and most important, souls - anyone who has loved and been loved by an animal soulmate knows that - no matter what the sterile theologians say.

We will be reunited with them and with the people we love in God's Perfect World. Meanwhile, no matter how sad we are at times, somehow we must honor their lives and their stick-to-it-tive-ness and their unconditional love and their living in the present and try our best to live that way. (I'm still pretty horrible at that, but I'm getting better by tiny baby steps.)

Eva - Hooray for you for sending such a clear signal to your grieving mom. She understands.

Gretta's mum, no problem at all I am sure Rocky knows what you meant. Definitely blessed to have that dream. No dreams since which I find strange because he is always on my mind and I dream every night. I'll very much be looking forward to the next one. It must have been something finding that pheasant feather...I really hope Rocky and Gretta and Rufus have become buddies where they are

Hello Rocky's mom

Just stoppping by to tell you what a beautiful, outstanding dog was Mr. Rocky. I have seldom seen such a beautiful dog. I know he is playing with my Rufus (don't tell him but sometimes I had to call him Rufus the Goofus) - he's a half black lab/half Newfie and, like Rocky, all love. We were only together a short 21 months and then he left me for the Perfect World - where your Mr. Rocky is, too. In that World, the sun is always warm, the shade is always cool, the water is always fresh, the food is always delicious, there are an infinite number of balls to play with, there are always friends around to talk to or get into trouble with or just lie around and soak up eternal life.

Rocky is right at your side where he has always been b/c spirits can be in many places at once. He's directing your path, he's following you wherever you go, and most of all he's loving you and being loved by you EXACTLY like before. I know that's true - my Rufie told me so.

What a lucky pair Rufus and Gretta must have been to have such a caring mum. It's been a sad day as it's been exactly 8 weeks since Rockys passing but your words have brought me comfort. Rocky always seemed to look up at me with pride when he got praise from somebody else and I can just imagine him doing that wub.gif I will have to write and ask him about his adventures with Rufus and Gretta
