I know this part of the forum isn't very well-used, but I do hope at least a few people will read this. I have been following this story for a while now. Almost a year ago, a dog was taken from his family by Belfast City Council because he LOOKED like a "Pitbull type" (Pitbulls are illegal in Belfast). He is being kept in terrible, inhumane conditions, and has just recently been sentenced to his death!!

The dog - Lennox - is infact a Labrador/American Bull dog cross. He is a much loved family dog, who has NEVER hurt anybody, and NEVER showed any signs of aggression. His devasted family have been campaigning to get him back ever since. The story is truly heartbreaking, and my heart goes out to Lennox and his poor family.

Please visit the website: http://www.savelennox.co.uk/ and show your support, and sign the petition. If you have Facebook, please "like" the "Save Lennox" page.

This has to be stopped!!!

Thanks, Cheryl x

Hi, Cheryl, I just noticed this post and have checked out the website. Is there any updated news on Lennox? Sorry I didn't see your petition sooner. This is so incredibly sad - - and a total abuse of "authority". Please let me know the status of this case - - and if the petition is still active - - I will be very honored to sign it.

Hope life is treating you kindly, my friend.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Thanks so much for sharing this.

This is awful. I don't understand how any form of government can commit this kind of thing. Even if Lennox were a pitbull, this would still be wrong. It seems like if the people keeping dogs in conditions like these weren't council members/government employees, they'd be indicted for animal cruelty. At least that's what I'd expect to see happen. But if the dog has never hurt anyone or even shown signs of aggression or mean-spiritedness, I cannot comprehend that this is legal (and even if it had...hardened criminals get better treatment in many cases). This is not civilized behavior.

"The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons." - Fyodor Dostoevsky.

I think that quotes applies here too. How we treat our most maligned, most wretched and most underprivileged is an honest measure of a society's (or government's) compassion and value for life. If this is how they treat dogs they happen not to like, that's a really scary prospect. I feel so sorry for this family. They're victims too. They suffer as long as Lennox does. If it's not worth it to decry this council for how it treats animals, they can at least recognize the negative cost to this very human, very suffering family. And as long as the government ignores them, refuses to hear out their appeal, refuses to even negotiate --that's a sorry excuse for democracy. However, it is inspiring that so many people have come out in favor of Lennox and this family. It's sad, however, that so many people have HAD to in the first place. It's been said before that cruelty, inhumanity and oppression of any kind hurts everyone in the society where it takes place. I'm reminded of the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, a politically outspoken conceptual sculptor and painter who, roughly a month before the opening of an exhibit in London, was snatched by the Chinese government. His life is a metaphor for oppressed freedom. No one has heard any word of him since. He's a sick man, surely being kept in poor conditions, so many wonder if he is even still alive. Despite this, there is a worldwide rally to rescue him.

I'm glad to see such a thing exists for Lennox, and for other examples of injustices around the world. But that it needs to still happen is bewildering.

I wonder how I can help, living in Montreal. But I will follow this and see if I can join some kind of petition or something. I'd like to contribute somehow.

Hi moon_beam and Lana,

I haven't heard anything more since I posted. I know that there was a court date set for an appeal, but at the last minute Belfast City Council cancelled. I'm not sure what the current situation is. Lennox's family have not updated their facebook page for a while, which is unusual and quite worrying. I just hope they haven't given up hope. They have sooooo many supporters though, over 33, 500 just on facebook. I feel so sorry for that poor little doggy being kept in those conditions when he hasn't done anything wrong.

Here is the link to sign the petition: http://www.savelennoxpetition.co.uk/

And here is the email address of Belfast City Council if you wish to make your feelings known: complaints@belfastcity.gov.uk

Thanks,
Cheryl xx

Hi, Cheryl, I was thinking this morning as I was getting ready for work that, because of the "bad press" of this horrible situation the magistrate may have imposed a "gag" order preventing anyone associated with the case to talk about it in any way, shape, or form - - which may be why you haven't seen anything posted recently. Oh I do hope and pray that Lennox is okay and that he will be returned to his loving family speedily. I will look forward to sharing any updates you may learn. And thank you again so much for bringing this to our attention.

Hope you and your boys have a very peaceful and blissful evening.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Hi, Cheryl, I was thinking this morning as I was getting ready for work that, because of the "bad press" of this horrible situation the magistrate may have imposed a "gag" order preventing anyone associated with the case to talk about it in any way, shape, or form - - which may be why you haven't seen anything posted recently.

moon_beam, I was thinking exactly the same thing, and I have a feeling that his may sadly be the case. The family usually update the page every day (sometimes several times a day) but the last time they updated was May 6, and this was what the update said:

"Hi everyone, just to let you know about the court appearance on the 4th. As you will all know on the 4th we had to attend court to set a date for the appeal date, well for some unknown reason at the last minute Belfast City Council's legal team decided they wouldn't be attending and because of this the day was wasted and no appeal date as yet has been set because the judge would not allow a date to be set without both parties being present in court on the 4th. Typical stalling tactics yet again by council. At the minute there is no more new news or any date set to return to court to set an appeal date."

Isn't this just so sad? How can BCC just decide not to attend at the last minute? Surely that shouldn't be allowed? I can't imagine what that poor family must be going through, and poor Lennox being kept in those terrible conditions -- with nothing but soiled sawdust for a bed, even though BCC are aware that he has a skin condition. I don't understand how they've gotten away with this for so long.

Let's continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers. I will let you know if I hear anything more.

Cheryl xx

Hi, Cheryl, thank you so much for the update. Unfortunately, as I have learned here in the U.S. the judicial isn't about "justice" or "doing the right thing" but more about who has the most "power" and "influence" and "manipulation" of the accurate facts to get a "win." And as history has shown people are people no matter where you go, there are some folks who obtain "power" and abuse it - - and unfortunately, get away with it. I hope and pray that "right" and "justice" will prevail in this case on Lennox's behalf and his family.

Thank you again for sharing the update, Cheryl, and will look forward to sharing any information that is further revealed about this case. Please know you and your boys are in my thoughts and prayers, and will look forward to knowing how you're doing whenever possible.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Just got this update from the families facebook page:

"Don't worry anyone who is not up to date with the case. Lennox is still alive, but he is still in the BCC's care, well if you can call it care. Judge Nixon did place a destruction order on Lennox on the 29th March 2011, but because I am appealing the decission, nothing can happen to Lennox. So he is still alive but we still have not been allowed to visit him or even know if he has had his annual booster. Other than trying to hurt us further I don't know why the BCC will not even tell us about his basic care and veterinary needs."

Hi, Cheryl, thank you so much for updating us on this very heartwrenching situation. I just cannot imagine how this got started in the first place. Lennox and his family are in my thoughts and prayers for a safe reunion.

Some updates from the Facebook page:

- Lennox's Court Appeal date is set for September 16th.

- "How can I help? All we ask is that people following Lennox’s plight visit the savelennox.co.uk website, copy docs, articles and post them on other forums, blogs, websites to help put Lennox’s story out there to the masses and to show people around the globe what BSL and in particular Belfast City Council has done and will continue to do unless people begin to take a stand, for far too long Belfast City Council and others have helped themselves instead of helping the people, the very people who put them and their councilors into their cosy high profile, overpaid positions are the same people paying their salaries, it is us that are being ignored, walked on, silenced and mocked, it is our money, the taxpaying publics money that Belfast City Council are stealing vast amounts of and wasting pursuing cases like Lennox through courts simply to secure a win and to cover up their own wrong doings and deceit. If you are a registered Twitter user you can follow #operationmediablitz and document where and when you have posted Lennox’s story onto whatever websites and share with other Lennox supporters. Using the savelennox.co.uk website you can also access many emails and contacts that you may find useful to post to."

This is so sad:

- "Lennox is reported to be very overweight, the family don't know why this is but our suspicious mind which has been developed as a bi product of 13 months worth of council lies and deceit has us consider if this rapid weight gain is an attempt to bulk Len up for the Judges benefit in an aid to making Len look more powerful or aggressive as the council really need to win this case, and yes the family have seen a picture of his overweight condition."

I really hope this is brought to justice!

Cheryl x

This is so sad and wrong! I cannot stand when people are prejudice against a particular breed! To me, it's no different than people being racist. A dog that is taught to be mean will be mean. Anyway, I am going to sign the petition and look it up on Facebook if it's still there. Just ridiculous and angering.

Poor Lennox, I bet he is so lost and confused sad.gif

Hi, Cheryl, thank you ever so much for the update on Lennox. I am here shaking my head in total disgust about the Belfast City Council - - is this all they have to do - - to torture an innocent companion animal and his human family? Please know this family and Lennox are in my thoughts and prayers hoping and praying that TRUE justice will prevail on September 16 for a happy reunion for Lennox and his family. Please keep us updated on the progress -- as you can.

I hope today is treating you and your little Franky kindly. It is now Friday and I am home with my little Noah for the weekend - - YEA!!! Please know you and your little Franky are in my thoughts and prayers, my friend, and look forward to knowing how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,

This was posted on the Facebook 'Save Lennox' page today:

A very sad day for animal lovers, a very sad day for the justice system and a worse day for Lennox. Judge ruled in favor of BCC stating Lennox is too unpredictable.
So sad to see that perjury, lies, corruption and cruelty can be rewarded in such a way! God help us all as humans we all need to step back look at ourselves and ask questions. Sorry everyone

A date will be set for Lennox to be put to sleep.

There are no words for how very sad and wrong this is. Lennox is an innocent animal who has never done anything wrong. My heart goes out to Lennox and their family.

Hi, Cheryl, thank you so much for sharing the news about Lennox. It certianly is not what I have been hoping for, and my heart is deeply saddened by the prejudicial judgment. I only hope and pray that the clinician performing the euthanasia will do so humanely and not make Lennox suffer in the process. This is just so very sad.

Peace and blessings,
