I'm new here and can't believe how hard it is to find a forum for people who have missing pets, not pets that have passed. I had a Doberman, he was my baby, he was 8 years old and I woke up one morning to find him dead of a heart attack. That was two weeks before I found out I was pregnant. Well, my son is three and a half now and all I had left was my cat of 16 years and Pug (Chloe, we call her Chloe Bea), she is now 8 years old and disappeared Saturday night. August 28, 2010. She got out the gate while I stood and talked to the neighbors, I looked right at her and said "come here" and she just stared at me. So I turned my back because she has never in 8 years left my side or strayed. She too timid and afraid to go very far. Well, about 20 minutes later I just happened to look around to make sure she was okay and she was no where to be found. Me and the neighbors began to walk the very urban neighborhood for four hours, nothing. I was sick. I drove around some more then went to sleep for a couple hours then walked the neighborhood for 12 hours the next day. I have posted on craigslist lost and found and Pet FBI, went to the animal shelter today, posted signs with my number and her photo throughout my neighborhood and at all surrounding bus stops, talked to as well as gave my number and her photo to about 20-30 people in my neighborhood, gave her photo and my number to the police that patrol the area and I have walked the streets and alleys as well as drove the streets and alleys for two days now. I stand at my front gate late at night yelling for her since it's quiet at night hoping she'll be able to hear me. I think everyone within a quarter mile radius by now knows her name and that there is a pug missing. I even put her photo and a missing flyer on my mailbox for the mail person to see since he/she canvases the neighborhood. Nothing. I keep going to my door hoping she'll be there. I think about her and it feels like a gut punch night and day. I want to burst into tears at work but I can't. As soon as I got in my car from work today I started bawling and cried all the way to my son's daycare. He's 3 1/2 and just thinks she's coming back. I don't think she is. Both of my dogs left me at 8 years old. But I can't bear not knowing if my Chloe is scared, hungry, thirsty, being treated properly...I don't know how to do this.

Dear Pughug

You are in the right place here as this forum also helps with Lost of missing pets. In the year I have been here, there have been about three people posting about missing pets and I am pleased to say that all were found safe and sound.
Is Chloe microchipped ? I think you have the same system as here in Uk. Or does she wear an identity tag on her collar?
You are doing the right thing by making as many people as possible aware that she is missing. Last year there was a Westie that went missing in my local town for about 9 months. The owners had posters on all the lamp posts and all over town and the surrounding areas. She did eventually turn up as her new owners who saw her and bought her at a 'Boot sale', saw one of the ads in a local paper. They put the notice in evry single week without fail. She is now back with her family. She had just got out of her garden and ended up in the next county, not sure how. Luckily all worked out well.
One of the missing pets on here was found stuck in an animal den close to home and all was well, but she was missing for a few days.
Get as many people as you can to help in doing a 'sweep' of your local area, at a the quietist time possible, so that any cries can be heard. You've probably already done that, but don't give up hope. Check all the shelters too, even ones further afield as she may have jumped in a car, as my Tasha once did. Luckily our local park wardens, and she had her tag on , so all was well. She'd run off to chase a squirrel, got disorientated and tried to get back to our house. I was still in the park, shouting and screaming like a mad woman for hours, but all was well in the end.
I do so hope that your darling Chloe is back home with you soon, and I will pray for her safe return. Please let us know how you are getting on . My thoughts are with you.
Hugs Jan and my Angels and Pixie xx

Still no sign. Unfortunately she did not have tags. They bothered her neck and since she had a wide neck and little head it didn't work well. Tags and pugs do go well together. Plus, she was always in the house or on the porch so we never needed them. I never considered microchipping, again because I protected her so well and she stayed so close to me. She never wanted to be more than ten feet away from me so I didn't have to worry about it. I have taken her to parks all over the city for years without a leash and never had an issue. We have gone for long walks in the woods for hours and she has always stayed by my side. My family and friends seem believe someone has taken her in and made her a family pet because she is so loving and child friendly. I don't know what to think. I guess I would be more comforted knowing she was being loved and cared for rather than roaming the streets needing food, shelter and water. That thought kills me. We went to the city animal shelter again tonight. No luck. They told us we have to show up every other day because animal control takes strays off the streets everyday and they only keep them for three days and then they can adopt them out. So every other day we have to drive across the city after work and walk through numerous rooms of lost dogs hoping to see ours. It's sad. My son cries because there are so many dogs barking, hundreds of them, mostly pitbulls. I try to explain to him that they just want attention and someone to take them home but he doesn't like the barking. He did great the first time but the second time all the barking got to him. I don't have a choice. I have to take him. I'm a single mom and if I wait she could be gone for good. Hopefully he will do better when we go back Friday. I don't know how long we should keep going back though.

Dear Pughug

I am sorry that you have no news yet and that your Chloe Bea is not back with you. I think as you say that someone may have found her and taken her home, and having no identification, maybe just thought they would keep her. I know what you mean, sometimes I have taken collars off during the day too, as our dogs have always been 'home' dogs, living in the house with us, and never straying far, until that the squirrel chasing incident with Tasha. I'm sure she would have been taken into the dog pound by now if she was still 'roaming', but you do right to keep checking. Make it known as widely as you can that she is missing, by posting in local/County or State newspapers. Also can you stick posters with her photo on around your neighbourhood. As I said in my earlier reply, the dear little westie who went missing for 9 months is now safely back with her original family. That is what they did. We saw her little face everywhere, and she became very famous round here and the surrounding counties.
It must be hard for you, having to take your little boy to the pound , bless you both. I wish I was nearer to help you. Could you leave her picture with them and your details, or are they so busy that they can't follow that procedure, I know the centres are under so much pressure. We have the same over here in Uk.
Stay positive, I know that must be so hard when you are worried and missing her so , but keep doing what you're doing. I hope that you have someone who can help you with your search.
I am hoping that all our Angels and all the positive thoughts and love on this website will help in your search for your dear Chloe.
Thinking of you.
Hugs

Still no sign. I put up 30 more missing posters with her photo around the neighborhood. It's like she just vanished. I honestly don't believe at this point she will be coming home. I still go to the shelter every other day but either someone has her and is keeping her or she is dead. I hate not knowing. I look at her bed everyday and I don't know what to do. I'm so angry and hurt I can't focus. Every time I start to feel normal I get a sickness in my stomach because I remember she's out there and not here. My three year old is taking this very well. I don't cry in front of him and I try not to talk a lot about her. But her brings her up as if she in the room or "just gone". No big deal. 8 years. So many memories. We went through so much together. She single handedly got me through leaving my fiance when I found out he was cheating 7 years ago. I admit I neglected her when my son was born and even a little now, being a single; full time working mom I never seemed to have time for her. But I do remember giving her special attention the night before she left. I always tried to take time each day to let her know she was loved. But never enough. She deserved more. She was so loving. So gentle. I can't understand how anyone could keep her. She's a purebred. It's obvious she's well cared for. She has a family. How can you take someone else's family member? They have to know that somewhere, someone is searching and hurting. Cruel. I don't care how much they enjoy her company, it's sick. I go from hurting and crying to anger and crying. Back and forth. Does this get better if she doesn't get better and I never know? I can't live my life bitter, angry and hurting forever. But I feel like I've abandoned her if I don't think about it.

Dear Pughug

I do so wish the news was better, but keep hopeful and positive. Maybe she got picked up by kind people who thought she was a stray, and having no ID maybe they just hung onto her , for her own good. She could have been taken out of the immediate area so they may not have seen the posters/fliers yet. Don't forget the local papers and the ones in surrounding areas. Thats how the Westie was found here, even though it was 9 months later. If you speak to papers maybe they will do a feature on her and you and your son. It might make people want to return her, pull on the heart strings, if they were otherwise thinking of keeping her. The more and the wider the news is spread the better the chance you have of finding your sweet Baby Chloe.

Thinking of you and praying for Chloe Bea's safe return.

Wish I had better news. I'm posting 50 more fliers this weekend with her photo. I check about six different web sites for lost dogs about 5 times a day. Tomorrow marks two weeks. My mind is telling me she isn't coming back but my heart tells me there's always a chance.

Dear Pughug

Yes there's always a chance. Keep doing what you're doing and try and stay positive. I know it must be so hard for you, but you are doing everything possible and hopefully soon, someone will bring you good news of your Chloe.
Sending hugs and prayers.

She's home! A woman called tonight and said she finally found my ad online. She found my Chloe after a man almost hit her in an alley and took her home. She's been taking care of her and even sleeping with her for over two weeks. She was sad to see her go and even asked if she could come back and visit Chloe. I was happy to oblige. When she called she said she believed she had my "baby" but couldn't come to my house for almost 45 minutes! I was so nervous and anxious. I wanted to cry I was so happy but I didn't want to get my hopes up. I didn't say anything to my son either. When she arrived my three year was in such shock to see his dog he angrily asked the woman "why did you take our dog?" She explained what really happened and he became happy and starting loving her. Many of our neighbors came out to her and congratulated us. They were all so happy to see her and actually meet her for the first time. Now this weekend I will walk the neighborhood with her on a leash, taking down over 100 fliers and letting Chloe meet all of the people I have asked about her. There are so many people that are going to be so happy I found her. Complete strangers! But they have come to know me over the weeks of searching for her. My phone is going crazy. I sent a text and photo to friends and family plus put it on facebook. You wouldn't believe how many people are so happy she's home. She is a very loved dog. By friends, family and now an entire community. Thank you everyone for your support. I have inserted a picture of my son and Chloe when she first got home tonight. Bless you and your animal families. Hugs.

I feel sick. My neighbors just told me that it was their relatives at the party the night my pug went missing that took her. Scooped her up right by our house. The woman was a pug lover and had pugs of her own. Hoping to breed. Chloe is fixed. The only reason she gave Chloe back is because she was being evicted from her place and her uncle, the person she was going to be staying with, would not allow dogs. My neighbor actually went over to her house a couple times and remarked about her having two pugs, not realizing one was Chloe! She knew what she was doing. She almost got away with it. My neighbor came clean tonight, said he felt better telling me the truth and said he was sick that it was his family that did something like that. Guess her boyfriend won't be hanging out over there anytime soon, since he used to be over there everyday until I got Chloe back. Her boyfriend is the family member. So, technically it wasn't his family but he feels it was since the guy knew I was searching everyday. I thanked him for letting me know. I had a feeling. I was told two stories and I knew something didn't seem right but I was just glad to have her back. I'm not going to let my family know about this, it changes my perspective on the human agenda. I don't want it to do the same for others.
