I'm afraid my 13 old month black and white tabby, Rodney, is missing.

Here's the story, copied off another forum...

I've had a cat for about 10 or 11 months now, since it was about 8 weeks old. Until about 2 or 3 months ago, it never seemed interested in going outside, so I didn't bother letting it out. But around June/July time, it started to go outside.

As I don't have a cat flap (I just leave the conservatory doors open), it doesn't stay out at night. Normally when it goes out, it'll be back in within a couple of hours. But on Saturday, it went missing.

I went out this morning, and left the conservatory doors open, as my brother was still here. But, I come back about 1 o clock ish, and the conservatory doors are shut. God knows why he shut them, but he did. So, the cat couldn't get back in.

I haven't seen it since. It obviously hasn't been fed since 8 am this morning, so must be starving. The only thing I can think of is that it's got eaten by a dog or something. There are quite a few dogs around here, but it's never been a big problem. It's now going to be out all night (and it's bloody cold!) if it's still alive.

What should I do? Start panicking or just wait?

It's still missing. I've printed off a few fliers and will put them around tomorrow. sad.gif

1st thing never give up hope. Cats are natural wanderers, but most of the time come back. There are so many possibilities out there. Rodney could have strayed too far and is having trouble finding his way, could have found another cat friend and followed them home, could have gotten shut in someones building or garage. May just be out catting around. Just never give up hope..
Praying for Rodney's safe return home. Keep us informed.

Hugs to you anf your Rodney

Somehow I would make sure there is a way he can get back in, rather than him trying and go away if he can't get in.

Else I would be out searching and calling for him whenever possible.

Good Luck.

(I personally panic when one of mine gets outdoors by accident as I don't trust that they wouldn't be attracted by something to chase and by the time they stop...they don't know where they are.)

As far as cold...cats do try to find shelter..even under a car..

I'm sorry he is missing...it is never easy to lose one of these special ones...but don't give up too quickly.

I would certainly leave those doors open he is used to. Even put a plate of food there (but then that might attract strangers).

I thought of the food thing too, but the skunks and racoons will find it first. The first night Arthur went missing, turned out he got trapped in the storage house next door. If you put flyers up, perhaps you can mention that. Please ck any sheds or garage. Somethink like that. Is the cat fixed? That's another thing that would make them wonder off for a few days. As for the cold, don't worry about that too much, they have a fur coat and will find shelter. Walk around the nieghborhood and keep calling. I had a cat that went missing for 15 days. She finally returned but her leg was dislocated from her hip. My biggest regret was not searching. Sending lots of prayers your way for a safe return and happy reunion.. Keep us informed. Hugs.. Ann

Hi Harry B. Just read the news (sorry I'm late). That's wonderful!. He is still very young and is courious about everything right now. He knows where his home is and that should give you some comfort. Last year I had Arthur dead and buried I don't know how many times 'cuz he wouldn't come home for hours upon hours. But eventually he always did. Rodney's a fiesty one. Best of luck.. Ann
