Scooter was the runt of the litter weighing six pounds at her heaviest. A fond memory was when I would take a shower, she would sit on the side of the tub between the shower curtain and liner and wait for me. She was 18 when she went to "kitty heaven" back in 2006. She was a sweet, sweet girl. smile.gif

Athena loved to go for car rides and refused to ride anywhere but shotgun... She'd sit just like a human, on top of her tail then expect me to hold her paw as we drove down the road. She was so human-like, from her soul searching eyes, her facial expressions to the way she sat in the jeep. Even if I was sitting on the couch she expected to "hold" my hand. She was so calm when she did it, like it was expected and everything was perfect in her world. I have so many memories of her, but this is one of the things she did constantly. It was like she wanted me to know she was always there, and in a way always will be.

Our girl Steelie

Steelie was a 14 year old black lab. One of her favorite things to do was to play frisbee. She was pretty good at it too. Every night when I got home from work we would play for about 20-30 minutes and she always got milkbones as her reward for catching it! She was our baby girl and we miss her very much. I like to think that she is up in heaven playing frisbee!

We love you and miss you,

Mommy & Daddy

While Hiway was ill, just before he passed, I was able to take him to work with me. One day we were getting massive deliveries and someone left both my office door and the backdoor open. Hiway was terrified of everyone but "his" people, he didn't do well with strangers, he got scared and ran. I was terrified and looked everywhere downtown for him, half the town was looking for him within an hour; I texted, facebooked and tweeted his photo as did everyone I talked with, including my vet and several shopkeepers. He was home on the front porch waiting for me when I went home to make lost dog flier an hour and a half waiting on the front porch with a smile on his face and a wagging tail. I received phone calls from people living or driving between where I work and live (about 6 miles) giving me updates on seeing him. One lady told me she tried to talk to him, but he just looked at her, wagged his tail and kept going, she didn't try to stop him because she said he seemed to know exactly where he was going. He took a short cut home that we'd never driven and certainly never walked. He had to make it through a touristy downtown at peak season and across several busy streets that, as far as I know, he'd never been on. Somehow he just knew. I told him he was the kind of dog they make movies about:)

I lost my best friend Pogo, this monday after 16 wonderful years and as heartbreaking as it has been my mind goes back to the first night me and my wife had her, this cute little ball of grey fur. I had made a bed for her in the kitchen, food, water and litter box and me and my wife went upstairs to sleep. About 20 minutes we hear small meows from down stairs so I go to check on our new family and there half way up the stairs, climbing like a free climber on a cliff face, I call my wife and we just laugh at this sight

It's going to be hard to type this without crying, but I feel like Meatball deserves to have his "accomplishments" (aka bringing so much happiness to me during his life) shared with the world. Hopefully it will make me feel a bit better too.

Right from the beginning he was SO social. He was a rescue, and when the girl at the adoption centre opened his cage, he walked straight out and onto my lap. The store attendant brought a carrier out for him to come home in, and he walked straight into it. No forcing, no wrestling, he just walked straight in, as though he knew he was going home.

Even for trips to the vet he didn't need to be forced. He did need to be "guided" into the carrier, but for the most part it was so easy. He was FEARLESS. He just loved everyone too. Anytime there was a knock on my door he would walk to it and greet them.

And so social too, anytime I sat on the floor, he immediately came over. He would also walk up to any visitors I had, just waiting to be pet.

He was smart too, he knew where his food was kept, even though it was in sealed cans in the storage room, and not even in the same room he ate in. He loved to eat and would lead me to the storage room to tell me to feed him. He also knew his toys were kept in the drawers and closet, so anytime he heard one of those open, he'd come running.

One really cute thing would happen once in a while with his favourite toy. It was this knitted red heart shaped thing. I would throw it, then he would chase after it and run back to me with it in his mouth. Except once in a while, his claw would get stuck in it, and in his excitement he wouldn't bother to remove it, he would just run back to me on THREE legs, with his other leg still up near his mouth!

It all seems so recently like he was doing these things, so this is hard and I'm going to stop for a bit. I'm sure I'll be back here and there to post more tidbits.

Our Scarlett taught us so much - she was and is an absolute DIVA. My husband and I would often say we weren't her parents we were her personal assistants.

When we went for walks she didn't just walk down the street she would strut like she was on a runway. She posed for pictures and loved meeting new people. When we'd walk down a street and if for some reason a person didn't stop and gush at her she'd stare at them and back at me and my hubby as if to say "What is wrong with them, don't they see how amazing I am?" She knew how special she was and continues to be... where ever she is.

I created a video tribute to Scarlett - its a tribute filled with video and pictures. I feel as if I am able to introduce her to others through this tribute and wanted to share her with all of you in someway. I know somewhere Scarlett is smiling and loving all this attention because as I stated before Scarlett LOVED meeting new people.

Here's the link to her tribute: https://vimeo.com/73336102

Scarlett baby... Mommy and Daddy love and miss you so much!

So many fond memories of so many beautiful fuzzy family members and friends. smile.gif

Some of my best moments shared with Tookie were late at night. That was her time of the day to roam around the house without being pestered by my over-energetic jack russell terrier Lola. It's not that they never got along but Tookie just always seem to take to spending most of her days in my mother's bedroom, which often acted as her own little apartment where she could look outside, sleep in the sun, get food and water, and to take naps with her. Being an insomniac, I always stayed up later than everyone else in the house on my computer where I couldn't bother anyone with watching movies or listening to music. Before going to bed, I would always go out into the living room or wherever Tookie had settled, and gave her scratchies/massage. Never watched the clock, never did it as a quick thing to do before bed - I always took my time and just relished sitting silence with her as she purred.

Since losing her at home over two weeks ago, I would say that has been the hardest thing - to still expect her to be in the places that she used to roam or curl up into a ball and sleep. When I'm up in the morning before everyone else, I expect to feed her breakfast.... Even in her last days when the doctors had no hope for her, and we were making her comfortable at home with medicine and food, laying on the bed with her next to me and giving her deep body massages are still some of my favorite moments - because it was just her and me together, and letting me tell her that everything was going to be okay, and we loved her more than anything. All of these memories add up to that I had an extraordinary life and time spent with her, and that makes some days loss more manageable than others. smile.gif

Here is a video I posted on youtube of her meowing her heart out to the camera about a year ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS3sMNe2Go0

My cat Kaya was put to sleep July 31, 2013. I still miss her so badly. She was scared of every loud noise, fast movement, or stranger. My room was her territory and she rarely let her sister Willow enter without growling. As timid as this little girl was, at night she would snore like a giant. It was incredible. I pictured a big fat sloppy tom cat snoring away, but it was just my beautiful little Kaya.

My fondest memory is of her as a kitten. She would wake me up every night by licking my nose. In the middle of the night. It was SO annoying to wake up to tuna breath and a scratchy kitty tongue cleaning my nose. Funny how the most annoying habits become the fondest memories.

It took me 6 months to finally do anything with her ashes. I found the most beautiful cremation pendants made by a local gentleman here in Oregon. When I wear her ashes around my neck, people notice and ask about my beautiful necklace. This gives me an excuse to talk about her, which I enjoy doing now that I finally can without choking up with tears every single time. If anyone is interested in looking at what he does, here is his link..

As much as it still hurts, it helps a little to talk about her and remember her frequently. Thanks for listening.

There are truly so many great memories I have of my Hannah Jane, it's hard to pick just one. She was my very best friend and she lived just a little more than a month shy of her 14th Birthday. One memory, speaking of Birthdays, is every year for her Birthday I would make her " dog-cakes". Just a simple pancake recipe, but she knew what they were and that they were for her:) she would get her own plate and I would do my best to make shapes of cats and bones lol she loved them. She lost her battle with cancer on 4/25/14. I miss her terribly every day, but all of our memories we shared are helping hold my heart together.

A story about the time my dog Sally saved a baby deer:

I had Sally for 11 years, raised her from a puppy, the two of us lived in a little house I was renting from a friend and neighbor on his 30 acres of land in the Georgia mountains.
My friend had 5 dogs and lived next door to us. About the perfect place for a dog to live- no fences or leashes, a quiet country road with amost non-existent traffic. Room to roam and explore as much as they wanted.

One evening I was sitting at the house and suddenly there was an explosion of dog barking and ruckus going on down in the field below my house.
I walked down to see what was going on, and there laying in the tall grass of the hay field was a tiny baby deer, surrounded by barking dogs, edging closer and closer.
I didn't know what to do, I was afraid the dogs would hurt the deer. At this point my big, imposing red dog walked up to the little deer and sniffed it, then turned around and started barking at the OTHER DOGS. She would not let any of them near the baby deer, growling and putting herself between them and the deer.

Finally the other dogs got tired and went back to their house. It was getting too dark to see, so I went back to my house. After an hour or so, Sally came back home. The next morning I went down to the field and saw no evidence of the baby deer, or that it had been hurt in any way.

I can't know for sure, but I think Sally protected that little deer , and the mother deer came back and collected it later when the noise and commotion died down.

To me I feel Sallly was acting on "mother" instincts and felt the need to proctect the baby. Funny thing is I got Sally fixed when she was a puppy herself and she never had the experience of caring for young.

She wasnt even a particularly affectionate dog. She was bonded to me, but acted like she was the pack guard, protecting me from the outside world.
That was her nature.

I guess my fondest memory which sums up my relationship with my Teddy is as follows:

It was a dark cold winter night. I was snug as a bug in a rug in my bed that had a bookcase headboard. I liked to keep a glass of water sitting up there. I awoke to a scraping noise and didn't know what it was. I heard it again and looked up from where my head lay on my pillow and saw my Teddy peering down at me next to my water glass. Scrape again and I noticed what the noise was coming from, it was Teddy pushing the water glass to the side. He peered down at me again and I was in the middle of screaming "Don't you dare!" when he drew his little paw back and smacked the full glass of water on my head. I, as any sane person would leaped out of my now wet bed, completely drenched to chase after him. Lucky for him he was much faster than I was....not quite sure what I would have done had I caught him dry.gif

Ahh my Teddy, he was such a stinker, but as I have always put it, he was my stinker.

I miss my sweet little Jack so much. It’s been one week today since he passed. I am desperately trying to remember and focus on all these good times, but the hole in my heart and soul is so deep and heavy with pain.
I am honestly still really struggling. All my routines are lost without him and I haven’t found my new way yet. It may be because it is still so raw. I have moments where I feel like I can soldier on, but they turn to lethargy soon after. He was always there for nearly half my life: nearly 16 years. I am so lucky for all the time I had with him. I love him forever. Love is a wonderful thing, but it is also pain. I try to remember that it wouldn’t hurt this much if I didn’t love him so much. Here’s to tomorrow, may I focus on the love I wil always have and learn to find a new way without his physical being.
